Apple Erroneously Sending iTunes Connect Email to Users

I just got a different one from iTunes Connect. It has absolutely no bearing on anything I do or get. (I don't live or work in Canada!) I wonder just what's going on!

Dear Robert Comer, In accordance with tax regulations in British Columbia, as of July 1, 2022, remittances for sales on the Book Store in Canada are reduced by a 7% provincial sales tax (PST) on Apple’s commission for publishers based in British Columbia. Apple Canada collects and remits the tax to the Ministry of Finance in British Columbia on your behalf. Starting in August, this tax will appear on your tax on commission statement in the Payments and Financial Reports section of iTunes Connect. Please note that the PST is in addition to the 5% goods and services tax (GST) that’s currently deducted from your commission.​

I received the "Correct your banking details" email yesterday as well, but in French.

We are 30 minutes from Apple HQ in California, and have never interacted with Apple en Français. I checked our iTunes Connect account. There are no errors or warnings, bank info is all correct (we'd also just received a monthly payment, as we have since 2004). Then I got the Apple Books taxes email in English. All good, though, because I received a correction email, in English, at around 5:26 pm. Mistakes happen, no harm done.

And then I received the "Correct your banking details" email again this morning, this time in English.

Eagerly awaiting the correction email in French.

I received the email Wednesday, but haven't had the time to look into it as I thought it might be a scam. Haven't received the apology email yet, so I'll check it out this weekend.

Apple actually did this to me years ago. After years of successful payments, they decided my bank info was no longer correct. Then they didn’t pay me for two months. As a small developer, it was quite a challenge doing without what was then a good 20% of my monthly income. I had flashbacks this morning when I got that email. Luckily, my payment was in my account this morning.

Thank you, my thoughts exactly. It's poorly worded erroneous emails like this that help people fall for phishing emails.

It's actually Google listening to you sing in the shower. Bad news, your Google account has now been banned for copyright infringement.

I got this too, immediately thought it was spam, but couldn't find any red flags, but my bank account details definitely aren't out of date.

Odd email, but this story explains it.

Very surprising!! Seems like they sent out a follow up mail mentioning it was an error!
