iPod nano mockup:

We've kind of lost the whole "nano" concept along the way, haven't we?

And a MacBook Pro air style:

Ee-yuck. I'm afraid Apple will go this direction, but it sure is ugly. By the way, if the new MBP is just a redesigned Air, where are they going to fit things like dedicated graphics, optical drive, the expansion ports the Air is missing, and faster CPUs (since the SFF CPUs are slow by comparison)?

It'd be bigger than that. I think they'd have a blackbook like that before they'd have a MBP like that.

Apple Event for September 9th?

i think the his guess is a week off i think it will be the 16th right now apple has a free ipod promotion that ends on the 15th i dont think they will release new ipods or mac books while that promo is still valid.

OMG, seriously?

Not necessarily. They could make, and have made before, the new iPods invalid for the promotion.

There have been Mac releases midway through the promotion.

And a MacBook Pro air style:

[/QUOTE]

Ok, if that was the new macbook pro, I would buy that in a heartbeat. I am still using Windows but want to make the switch when these new laptops come out, and I know I don't need a macbook pro (a regular macbook would suffice just fine) but that looks amazing!

Macs later?

AppleInsider says the notebooks will be released after the iPods…

AppleInsider said:
While those sources close to AppleInsider have not addressed the matter specifically, they were explicit in stating that availability of new MacBook and MacBook Pro systems would succeed the introduction of iPods -- suggesting availability later in the month, if not the next (October). Of course, Apple could certainly choose to pre-announce the systems alongside iPods, but it would represent the first time the two distinct product lines share the same stage in nearly four years.
…but maybe announced at an event…

AppleInsider said:
Together, the redesigns of the MacBook and MacBook Pro are radical enough that they'll warrant a special introduction.
…so I'd say an early October Special Event is a likely possibility. If no special event, then September 30 is my next guess.

You know what's really annoying though, no doubt there's a factory somewhere, churning out the new notebook parts right now. And we don't know a damn thing about it :p

Hey people chill out
I'm not saying it is impossible, I'm just saying Apple wouldn't do it cause the Macbook Pro sales would almost die
A lot of people buy the MBP just for the bigger screen and the metal.
So, I know that all the rands offer 15 inches laptop for 1000$( even less)
but that's not Apple case.
And for the 18 inches ... Apple never jump on new technologies like this one
They wait and then if they see that it has potential, then they adopt it
:D:apple::D

hey man we all chill.. Explain how it will make the MBP sales die if lets say they added a blu-ray drive as well as added a 16:9 screen to match the same resolutuon as blu-ray? I think blu-ray on macs will really make mac sales jump.

"a lot of people buy the MBP for the larger screen and metal" ? ah huh I'm sure people buy them for the performance and not just looks.

You said a 15" screen is imposable for bellow one grand... so me and one other member corrected you. If apple wants to expand their market and go in to the low price catergory like they susposly did with the mini then they will come out with a notebook for bellow one grand.

Apple said they will never work with Microsoft, use intel processes or run windows on a mac. Now look. (Well the microsoft thing was needed in order to bring back the company to health as it was on the edge of bankruptcy)

So you may be right at some degrww with seeing if it will work but with a number of notebooks and desktops with blu-ray drives out its no stopping them for adopting this technology. Plus in 2009 we will see a lot more notebooks with 16 and 18" screens.... its a new standard that will ariive in a few years. just like 16:10 screens are now

What screen resolutions do you see for the 16:9 ratio MacBooks and MacBook Pros?

at least 1600 x 900

I'm not good at resolutions but I know for a fact that is one thats found on a sony model that has a 16:9 ratio (by the way I was at costco today and saw a sony 16" with 1600 x 900 16:9 and it wasnt that bad.)

I think 16:9 would be horrible for computers. On computers your reading text, web pages are usually vertical, why shrink the vertical size...something is used most often in computers? Especially as a programmer, I don't want to lose more verticle size then I have to. I think 16:10 is perfect for computers. If you want 16:9 in movies, keep the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen or use your TV. That's what it is made for.

Right on. I spend my working time revising technical documents, and very often it's important to view a lot of text at once to easily get the context. Extra scrolling, even with a fancy multi-touch trackpad, would get frustrating fast:( (Yes, I use external monitors at home/office, but I do a lot of work on trains, in parks, etc.)

Hope Apple doesn't forget that some people still use laptops for work, not just for entertainment.

Slightly smaller top/bottom black bars, yes, but that's my sentiment, too.

Looks like an computer from outer space that is used by aliens to me. :p

sounds like the quote from when steve introduced the first iMac.. and that MBP mockup looks like its from a different planet.. (with good designers too.. that is):p

Even though i don't need a nano (or any iPod as i have 4 already ) but that nano mockup looks pretty cool
and when i get a new computer to replace my 2006 MB, that pro looks like it could fit my taste ;)
