Do you think Apple might as well just give the highest resolutions available for the MacBooks/MacBook Pros as standard?

well given its a pro product they just as well might. At least on the uppser 15" and 17" models.

I do hope they have a lower end MBP starting at at least 1499. I'll take 1699 but 1499 would be nicer. We can always bulid from there and still be bellow two grad.

Please no "apple's pro products are susposto cost a lot" comments. I know very well of that but i just want a lower cost MBP (newm not refurbished or last years model)

Apparently so, given the current state of Mac display resolutions. Only the 17" MacBook Pro has more than one resolution option, and current resolutions aren't exactly that high.

I'd like to see these options (bold is default):

13" MacBook: 1280·720 1366·768 1600·900
15" MacBook Pro: 1366·768 1600·900 1920·1080
17" MacBook Pro: 1600·900 1920·1080

1920x1080? a bit small may be? my 24" LCD is 1920x1200 some laptops have that same res.

EDIT: I did a resoluation check on my LCD and it comes in a bit squashed at 1920x1080. Since the MBP is widescreen 16:10 (as of now) I would think they will go 1920x1200 just so nothing will be squashed. (and FYI my LCD is 16:10)

Why does everyone think this event will be on September 9th? The promotion is still going on! That would be dumb for Apple to do.

I think it'll be September 16th, as it's the day after the promotion ends, and it's a Tuesday. The magical Apple day.

It has been explained a number of times. Plus last year they had the event BEFORE the promotion ended. The promotion has nothing to do with this event....

1920x1080 is the standard HD resolution used in movies, that's probably why he said that, it has a 16:9 aspect ratio

Going thru 13 pages, I have a few things I think WILL happen (and you Wontkinses will have to go sniveling to your mommies if I'm right):

1) Definitely iPod + iTunes updates. I don't doubt that for a SECOND.

2) Maybe iLife + iWork updates (maybe using iTunes to distribute all Apple software, for both Mac & Windows?).

3) I can see a iPhone/iTouch camcorder, but I can also see an iSight handheld camcorder that took 1080p HD video on SD & SDHC cards, with a predominance of internal memory so that SD & SDHC cards wouldn't be required right away, more like 30-120 GB or so, with great battery life & great settings for cramming more video into that space. It'd have to be waterproof because I'm sure the Apple guys who go scuba diving and on water rides like Splash Mountain would certainly appreciate the waterproof nature of this camcorder (and I have to wonder how that iMovie engineer got 1080p video while scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef with any off-the-shelf equipment that wasn't Apple's...).

4) Apple needs to expand how they host content on iTunes (and take some pressure off of MobileMe). I think that Apple could really monopolize where people get their podcasts just by offering different levels of hosting that was extremely competitive. Also, they could have a "User-Submitted Content" site on the iTunes Store, where people could submit awesome content and have it hosted on iTunes! Maybe even have a special section for theme and amusement park videos, too.

5) Definitely MacBook/MBP redesigns, and definitely consolidation too.

6) I'm going to get slammed up and down for this (and maybe I won't) but I think that the Mac Mini needs a much-needed shot in the arm. How do we do that, you ask? Intel's Atom processor, a low-budget, low-power processor (sounds like it was MADE for :apple:!) and ATI's Mobility Radeon HD 2100! Add to that a server-grade 1 TB hard drive (like what they use in the Time Capsule) as well as a Blu-Ray SuperDrive and you have the best Mac experience ever! All for...only $199 US! A man can dream, can't he? Plus, this is the PERFECT way to suck up to Apple's customers! The cheapest computer Apple's ever made! I think we'll see a REALLY cheap computer that ain't the iPhone at the event.

Just a rumour I heard on the street the other night, a particularly 'dark' Apple street corner if you know what I mean , is that "some stores" (don't ask me where or when) are clearing 'old stock' of Mac Pro towers and this leads to a suspicion that new towers are coming? Something I heard from a particularly :apple: 'futurist consultant' dude I know.

ATI Radeon HD 4850 and 4870 are coming:

I agree but my estimate on a Intel Atom, Radeon, the superdrive 349+ with the apple thrown into it

I would cream myself if they released new iPod touches and MacBooks on the 9th. I would be first in line to get them!!

I've been waiting for the new MacBooks for a while now and my brother sold his iPod touch a couple days ago to get the new one. If they come out on the 9th then we could take advantage of the back to school promo and save a bunch of money. :)

There are no new CPUs or systemboards available for Apple to put into a Mac Pro, so at best, it will be a boost in standard RAM and HDD capacity.

They should, but given past history, I doubt they would.

One way of doing so would be to reduce the resolution. Another way to do so is to have a low-end GPU option. A third way is for the high-end MacBook to have Firewire 800, 1440·900, and a low-end GPU.

This "Mac nano" actually makes sense.

Dual-core Atoms are coming soon at 1.6 GHz or so, so it'll likely be able to run Mac OS X, iLife, etc. "reasonably" well. They are low-power so Apple would be able to make the Mac mini smaller, or like you said, put in a bigger hard drive for a similar size.

It might be that the Atoms that were supposedly going into the tablet might actually be going to this device.

It would also explain why Apple has not updated the Mac mini in a long time. Apple would want to at least keep the GHz similar from Merom » Atom (and play up the 4 threads).

And… there could be a laptop version of this ("MacBook nano"?). A mini-laptop or mini-tablet around 10"~12" and at an appealing price point could also be in the cards, as basically a lower-end version of the Mac nano in a notebook/tablet style.

The problem with a $1499 MBP is how to do you position it against the Blackbook?

The Blackbook has the same CPU, the same memory, a 50GB larger HDD and similar graphics performance (be it the Intel X4500 or the nVidia MCP79) for that same $1499 price.

The Blackbook won't exist. The Macbook line will go all alu.

Here's my prediction. I don't know when they are going to be announced, but I bet they are released after apple ends there special sales with affiliate stores on Sept. 28th.

I can definitely see that happening.

I also notice that the "Special Pricing" is about 25% (21%~34%) off for all iPods except for the iPod shuffle. The shuffle doesn't have Special Pricing and only is ≈15% off. Maybe the shuffle will only get a color change (rainbow?) this coming update, just like last year. Also, if the new iPod touch gets a $100 price drop (expected) and GPS (rumored), it would be better than the current refurb iPod touch.

Me.com Homepage "Tuesday 9"

The "cloud" and other product images including the me.com homepage have shown an iCal symbol with "Tuesday 9" on it since Apple announced MobileMe in June. The last time the 9th of a month fell on a Tuesday was October 2007. See you a week from Tuesday, on September 9th, at MacRumors. Surely there will be lots to talk about.

Haha nice find.
Maybe a little easter egg from the guys over at Apple to us?

I think someone said it before, Apple has always had Tuesday the 9th shown on the calendar app in pictures of iPhone and iPod touch, ever since the iPhone was first announced, which was Tuesday January 9th, 2007.
