That satellite connectivity sounds like a very impressive feat of engineering.

wtf. subscription for emergency satellite and 2 continents only? but they're satellites, hundreds of miles above the entire planet?

If Apple really cared about the environment, they would provide security updates to older phones for a couple years after they can no longer receive iOS updates.

More likely, the satellite providers have told Apple "we're not convinced we can make money from this so we'll give you two years to prove it."
