You assume wrong. They’ll pretend to update it every year charging full price for very marginal changes like 10 screen nits more or fell off a cliff detection.

I joined the Apple upgrade program last year. I wonder if it's better to use that service to upgrade to the 14P or pay off the remaining $$ on the 13P (if any balance) and trade the 13P in on a 14P.

I got the answer. I went through the process on the Apple Store. It takes you through the process without being able to order.

Eliminates a large portion of prepaid / MVNO services now too as only a handful currently activate eSIM. Hopefully that changes ASAP and this isn't just a push to the bigger carriers.

This was the biggest issue of the day and of course they not only glossed over it but tried to tell us it was a good thing. They didn't even try to make an excuse as to why it's better.

This is the headphone jack all over again. You are exactly right in that this is a power play.

And they have the gall to tell us it's so our simple brains and clumsy fingers don't have to "deal" with SIM cards anymore.

I agree that’s lame. There’s countries in the developing world where physical sim is the option if you want to save to
cash on data. I’m talking about 10 gig for $10. No way for carriers to beat that. E sim locks you out right now. Sigh…..

Yeah, Apple's naming conventions are beyond horrible, and confusing for most. They need consistent, semantically obvious names across their entire lines.

Very disappointing, nothing about Macs.

The 14 is nothing special, 14 Pro is okay. Only thing somewhat exciting are the AirPods Pro 2.

Let me summarize each iPhone event in the last few years:

* slightly nicer screen
* slightly faster
* slightly nicer camera with slightly better night photos
* slightly different colours
* slightly better network interfaces
* slightly more expensive
* some completely esoteric feature that may or may not be ever used

I mean, that's simplistic, but sometimes it feels like Apple is hitting another innovation slump (with the exception of Apple Silicon maybe).

It's sort of an interesting way of polishing a turd - the turd being the notch. They've essentially added a cutesy feature to try to make the pill look like it's actually useful.

Not sure why you're so in love with the dynamic island. It's a cutesy way to try to make you think the pill is usefull when in actuality, is worse than the notch. The pill sits closer to the centre than the notch and makes the pixels between the pill and the bezel pretty useless (particularly for playing games or watching videos). So it actually is more intrusive than the notch!

They really need to figure out a way to get rid of the notch/ pill altogether and have edge to edge screen.

I’ve seen plenty of fellow iPhone users that are sceptical of its design to be honest so far. No idea about Android users as I don’t see an awful lot of input in those circles.

The Pro was more interesting than expected, but the regular iPhone 14 was a joke.

It's literally the same design, display and processor as last year, but with a slight camera upgrade. Giving people 60 Hz at those prices is a joke in 2022/2023 when even 180$ Androids ship with 90 Hz OLED displays.

Agreed. Anyone taking a normal 14 over a cheaper 13 is just setting money on fire.
