I see more and more folks online with the consensus that this was a sleeper of an Apple event. As in, it was video Xanax

I realize that nobody forces me to watch these things, so I don't blame anyone but myself.

I've already tapped out of WWDC (the bizarre mother nature scene was my breaking point), next year I'm just going to read the press release of the iPhone event as well.

As for this event being "boring..."

Apple, in the mid 2000s made a decision to de-emphasize live events and focus on opening retail stores. They understood that the relatively small numbers of viewers of the live events would be dwarfed by the number of people who would walk into their retail stores. Thus, for example, in 2009 they did their last MacWorld live event.

According to one source I've seen, Apple gets about 1 million visitors daily in Apple Stores. That's more people with hands on experience of Apple products in 3 or 4 days than likely viewed the Apple event yesterday.

As for "there's no more innovation!" Please. Comparing year-on-year iPhones and expecting a revolutionary product every year is simply silly. The iPhone 16 is a marvel. If you can't see that, you're not looking from the proper perspective. If you want gimmicks and gadgets, the Android world is full of them.

The number of you who obsessively hate on Apple, who can't wait to come to MacRumors to express that opinion every day—who watched the whole Apple presentation and then spent hours on this thread expressing over and over and over again how much you hate Apple—are a truly fascinating psychological profile. You hate Apple so much you simply can't leave them alone.

As of today...Apple has the largest market cap in the world. Despite so much laptop prognostication predicting their demise, Apple is doing just fine.

Look guys, I know Hollywood is bankrupt of ideas but this is the worst Leprechaun sequel I've ever seen.

Nobody has been able to answer this question for me: What purpose does the camera button serve other than Apple trying to shoehorn in a feature to sell? Onscreen controls are better because they're operated with your thumb which is the natural way to operate it when you're gripping the phone with the other 4 fingers. This is exactly like Dynamic Island two years ago, some "feature" they just made up but isn't useful at all.

Have you not considered the benefits of a physical shortcut button for someone who has a visual or motor accessibility issue? They might prefer something tactile to thumbing about on a screen (as that can have usability issues).

So many of you on this thread crack me up.

Yeah. Sure. Apple is in trouble. 😆
You'll be surprised by how fast it can go downwards or even fail, it won't be the first nor the last.
Just saying.
That does not mean I think it will be soon, it's a fact though that one day they won't be so lucky.
Also, I have plenty of Apple stuff and will have it for the foreseeable future.

Oh, btw, Apple lost 13 billion to Ireland this week.;)

None of which will have anything to do with the iPhone 16 release. Apple will sell as many iPhone 16 (or more) than the iPhone 15.

"One day Apple will fail!" is not much of a prognostication.

I have owned almost every iteration of the iPhone since the very release. I use the camera a lot, and while better performance in low lighting is always appreciated, I have to say, IMO, this is the most meh drop I can remember. I use the pro max which is already plenty big enough for me. The camera button seems a bit gimmicky to me. Was really hoping for some type of additional optical zoom. There are only so many names you can give to Black, White, Silver and Gold hues and keep people excited, especially when most people use a case anyway.

I have almost always ended up ordering a new phone and watch within weeks of release even in years where it didn't seem that the improvements were drastic, and typically am up in the middle of the night to order at first opportunity, but I sense absolutely zero ambition to spend the $$ on an updates this time. If I still had a 12/13 or even 14, maybe it's worth a look, but coming from a 15PM, I'm just not feeling it. Hope other people get more mileage from the update. They completely missed me in their audience with this release. Looks like I am definitely hanging onto my 15PM and AW 9 this time around. I haven't talked to anyone around me who is excited, either, but hopefully it's just my circle.

View attachment 2414694Has anyone noticed how half of the "new features" are not even new?!

5x : not new on pro max
ProMotion, action button, usb-c with usb 3, Apple Intelligence, Titanium : also available on 15 pro
(the rest are trivial things)

Are they really thinking we’re that dumb???

What’s new is 120fps 4K that takes all the 128GB memory you have in 3min, filters (photographic styles), better mic (who cares) and wifi 7 (who cares?!). Better CPU (who cares) and spacial video (who th cares!?!?)
Yes they really are banking on ignorance this year. Go to the font page of the Apple Store right now and tell me they aren't trying to push the Ultra 2 and Airpods Max as new products coming soon.

Yes I have had every iPhone since the first. I won't upgrade this year until I can get a good deal second hand or something.

Wow, that's dedication. I doubt you'll get a Chrsistmas card in the mail from Tim Cook this year though.

You're right, sorry. I will go fix it.
I have a good friend whose AppleWatch reported an Afib condition, so he told his doctor and within a week he was having a triple bypass. The Watch probably saved his life.

Now he has two Apple Watches; the second watch is for wearing when he sleeps, while his other watch charges.

I have posted negatively on this forum today. I have a iPhone 15 pro max. An Ultra 2. Airpods Pro 2 (pre USB c) and an iPad pro 13 inch. Apple makes great products. What I object to is their marketing hype which frankly is just total BS. There was next to no innovation this time. It has cost them a watch upgrade from me, purchase of a set of wireless headphones and unless the camera makes a big improvement on the current one its cost them a phone as well. Instead I will give my headphones money to another company; Focal or Dali. Their Airpods Max approach was frankly extracting the wee - seriously cynical and the marketing hype was frankly patronising. Do I hate them? No. Do I predict their demise. No but I don't necessarily think though that we will see big increases in their share price (though I wouldn't put money on it because the markets are mad at present) and Apple fans are Apple fans. This year the updates were frankly not just miniscule but really disappointing. Other manufacturers made bigger strides and have impressed more. That's not hating. Its calling a spade a spade. Also when you talk about gimmicks, what about AI - Apple went there. Perhaps if they'd put a bit less of their efforts into AI we might have seen a few more useful items in the hardware they released.

Total BS? I think you'd have a hard time justifying that comment. Total? Of course, Marketing is marketing. There's a level of subjectivity to it. But interpreting it is also subjective. I found nothing they said today to be "total bs."

There was next to no innovation this time.

See...I could say this is "total bs" and there's no metric by which you could prove me right or wrong. I think Apple is and has always been extremely innovative. But I also recognize that tech has matured to the point where innovations are not as thrilling as they once were.

Your mileage may vary. I love my Airpods Pro that I've owned for about three years now so much that I don't NEED to upgrade them. That's a positive for Apple, not a negative. I don't expect headphones to keep adding new and more gimmicks every year. You are clearly looking for something different than I am. But that doesn't mean Apple has failed in any way.

Do I hate them? No. Do I predict their demise. No but I don't necessarily think though that we will see big increases in their share price (though I wouldn't put money on it because the markets are mad at present) and Apple fans are Apple fans.

"Apple fans" are not driving the value in Apple stock. Value in the products and the company and their IP are driving Apple stock.

AI is the innovation that Apple is focusing on. And Phone hardware is a mature category that is going to continue to make meaningful if incremental progress going forward. Again, I think folding phones etc. are gimmicks. You wanting what I consider to be gimmicks doesn't mean you're calling a spade a spade. It just means you'd be happier with those companies who are pretending to innovate by throwing anything and everything at the wall to see what sticks.

You seem to be confusing what you want with "innovation." That's fine. But it's a data point of 1. Apple is still a very healthy company that will still continue to sell a lot of phones, even if you don't think they're anything special.

By now I’ve usually swayed between not upgrading and upgrading, several times. But I usually have the latest iPhone and it’s often hard to justify the change, doesn’t stop me though.
This time I’m just not interested in a change which for my wallet is probably a good thing. I don’t need a new TV every year a new model comes out and I certainly don’t need any of the features the latest phone has Compared to my 15 pro max.

I know many will disagree (some have even replied to me that Apple would never do this) but if Apple do produce a folding iphone I’d certainly be interested in the 3rd version of it.
