Right... the MacBook vs. MacBook Pro price points have been so consistent for years that I had figured out, exactly, what the new price points would be for the M1 MacBook Pro's based on the discount of the M1 MacBook 13" vs. the Intel MacBook 13".
That is, the previous Intel MacBook Pro models had base price points of $2399 and $2799. The new MacBook Pro models have price points of $1999 and $2499... discount of $300 from Intel to M1, exactly as the 13 inch model.
The CONFUSION seems to arise from the fact that, if you go to
this page, now they're calling the 13" a "MacBook Pro" when in previous years they never had. Note that this is not a 10 Core M1 Pro. It's an 8 Core M1. So it is still, fundamentally, the successor to the 13" MacBook.
I've no opinion on whether the rebranding makes sense or not... But it doesn't seem consistent with older strategies to include the M1 in the same strata as the M1 Pro. Different generation processor with different capabilities, and very different hardware feature sets and design cues.
