Oh, I despise the notch on phones, but that’s because that screen space isn’t used for menus normally. The notch on a MBP just means they figured out how to push the menu bar up into the bezel, which is fantastic.
Do you guys understand that this notch destroys the single bar menu?

Well, early December for me. Got the 16" MAX with 64RAM. Price is right IMO. This MBP s a beast. For motion graphics is perfect. I only wish they announced a cheaper XDR display version. Bummer.

I don't understand the bezel hate...

Seriously - I can see the reasoning: it's moved the menu bar out of the way and left the main 16:10 area free - and 95% of the time the middle of the menu bar is blank... but if you use "light mode" it's always going to look like a a big bite out of the display.

Hey, maybe if they'd made the bezel white... (runs away very fast :) )
Bezel is wasted space. I’d MUCH rather have more screen, than maintaining some design aesthetic.

Maybe, for no-notchers, they can bring that menu bar back down, and sell a $45 strip of electrical tape to bring the precious bezel back! 😉

Apple has never operated that way. The mini is basically the red headed stepchild, the idea that they’re consciously forcing you into another laptop instead of a mini is absurd. The MacBook line is their bread and butter of Macs, that’s why it’s been updated.

I’d love to strap a mini to the back of my monitor, but they’re not withholding the mini to force MacBook sales. Apple has always considered them entirely different product categories…because they are.

I hope an updated one comes soon for your use case though, I’ll definitely pick one up for a home machine at some point down the road.
That logic is fine if the mini update includes a faster processor than todays pros. If it gets the same hardware it’s just delayed.

There will be a switch in the settings for "Luddite Mode" which will just permanently turn the top of the screen black and move everything down 76 pixels. Problem solved.

Silver M1 MAX, 16", 64GB, 2TB. Arrives November 3-5. Have to think it would be sooner if I hadn't hesitated for a minute. Same build is now shipping December 10-23 and will probably slip into 2022 soon.

EDIT: well I made over $6k on TSLA so far today so I guess that covers it.

I jumped pretty quick on my order thinking that even if I get it and it's just too much for me, I can sell it for at least what I paid for it, if not more.

Hopefully your order will get moved up.

I kicked myself after buying my 2017 MacBook Pro 13" and got a big 3D rendering project a few months later. Wish I had gone for the 15" with the beefier GPU. But these new machines are stunning, and there's pretty much no compromise in power in going with the smaller screen, because it can be bumped up in spec.

Only frustration is when you get into the upgrades, the price to go to the 24-core GPU in the midrange 16-inch option ALSO forces a RAM upgrade, so the upgrade isn't actually +$200… it's +$600.

That said, this new lineup is staggeringly good, and there are NO COMPROMISES other than built-in display size with the 14-inch vs. 16-inch models. Exact same CPU, GPU, and ports on both models, so you can choose smaller and lighter if that's important to you.

The best part? I configured identical 14" and 16" models, and the difference in price was $200. That's it. For a bigger display and slightly 42% bigger battery (100 watt-hours vs. 70 watt-hours). Two. Hundred Bucks. That's pretty awesome. Given the notch, I think I'm definitely going to be opting for the larger display, because you just know some pro apps are going to have a ton of menus and I do not want to see how that's going to be impacted by the notch.

Base 14" in Europe: 2249 euro!!! Which is equal to 2612$
Oh man!
I once read that Apple sets prices higher in € because of the currency risk.
This is an impertinence, since a weakening of the $ against the € actually happens more often. Basically, there are no big fluctuations between the $ and the €, so these high prices only serve to maximise profits and possibly subsidise prices in the US.

I think if you go through the replies here, you’ll see a TON of people have been using their MBPs as desktop machines, since airlines/coffee shops/etc. have Covid mitigation rules. The last year and a half has turned a LOT of “road warriors” into “remote-from-home warriors”, who are looking for that pro power, but without having to buy a $6K Mac Pro. We all had our eyes on an updated Mini… but now we’ll have to consider a 14” MBP at twice the price to get those sweet chips…

Well played, Apple, and DAMN YOU!!!

More expensive than I was expecting.

Ordered the 2nd 14” option. So 10 core, 16 gpu, 1tb ssd, faster charger. Wanted more ram but it starts to get silly.

I realise it’s the same price as the base 16 model which has 512gb ssd, which is fine but not sure 16“ is portable enough for planes, trains and the likes.

Also wanted to order a mini M1 max and new display.

First reason which you omit here is the 19-21% sales tax.

I'll keep mine for a while but thank God that Touch Bar is not there. I wish someone would make the Touch Bar look and work like the old keys .... which are the new keys
