Apple's virtual "Unleashed" event kicks off today at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time, with the headline announcement expected to be redesigned MacBook Pro models based on Apple silicon. We will almost certainly also be hearing a release date for macOS Monterey and may see a few other announcements such as third-generation AirPods and a new high-end Mac mini.

I will also repeat here my speculation that we're going to get FaceID. The assumption was that since there's no flood illuminator, FaceID won't happen. However, notebook computers don't have to have the range of use cases that phones do. I think we'll get FaceID with the built-in camera using ambient light with Touch and Watch as a backup.

Hope to be proven right.

I continue to believe that the Foxconn prototype vehicle that was spotted last week is actually the Apple prototype vehicle, to be revealed at this event within 2 hours of now.

Bizarre that this story went totally ignored by MacRumors and nearly every other media outlet.

I suspect Apple sent out some kind of gag order - "speculate about anything besides Macs at this event and you're not invited."

If Foxconn were really making this car on their own, as Foxconn says, that would be a massive Apple story, as it would mean that Apple's biggest partner of the past 2 decades is trying to become a direct competitor. This would be very much a story for Apple outlets to cover. But they won't cover it, so they can remain invited to this event.

But Foxconn's story has tons of holes in it. They're just deflecting from the fact it's the Apple Car.

(Foxconn's started their reveal event 45 minutes ago in China. I expect Apple to reveal the same vehicle ~an hour from now, with Apple badging: https://electrek.co/2021/10/18/foxconn-unveils-3-new-electric-vehicles-build-evs-for-other-brands/ )

Interested to see if Apple mentions "the type of DRAM" supported by both new M-series chips.

And, to what extent the DDR PHY Controller designs are different.

Foxconn just announced 3 EV prototypes officially today though...

Gonna be real hard for Apple to compete against Tesla's lower-priced models !

I don't see Apple being successful if they try !

I do think Apple can be successful making & selling an EV for public transportation, however; e.g., something that holds up to 10 people OR so.

Like a mini Bus.
