Bring it on! I’m interested how, if at all, they integrate touch functionality to the MacBook screen to bring greater functionality to all those incoming iOS apps. While the iPad proves cursors work well for touch-centric devices, it has yet to be seen how cursor-only input would fare for for a non-touch device with iOS apps like the Apple Silicon MacBook.
Same way it works in the iOS simulator in Xcode?

The PPC and x86 Macs weren't cheaper than the 68k and PPC Macs they replaced...so although I'd like to see an actual price cut, I'm tempering my expectations on that front.

Why rush to market a premium product like the MacBook Pro range?

Why not just wait until next year for the new design/architecture, it has to provide design flexibility advantages plus the promotional wow factor once on sale. You only get one shot at the new premium product line launch.

Yes I know there may be some reasons but the benefits of such a delay seem to outweigh the negatives.

Why do you want a redesign? Does it really matter what the machine looks like so long as it has a good screen and a working keyboard?
Part of the reason I'm an Apple user is because aesthetics matter.

If they didn't, I'd be getting a Windows PC (those XPS machines look better and better), or a current and arguably more flexible Apple machine right now. I'm due for an upgrade (on 2011 hardware still), so I want something "pretty". ;)

Since 2001, when I first saw OS X (Jaguar?), and the blue iMac and G3 tower, Apple has been the you-know-what of my eye.

Then after that, the tabletop iMac (my all-time favorite), the cube, on and on... Man, you made me time travel there to better days, when my wallet was empty but my house was FULL of almost every Apple product and I had a BIG smile on my face.

I doubt anything is being rushed to market. If they’re going to release the 16”, it’s because it’s ready.

It would be a bit bizarre for them to have duplicate models with a processor choice. It would just cannibalise their own products. Although I suppose they would try to reduce the number on Intel Macs sold over time.

Next week's Apple event will see Apple introduce three new Macs with Apple Silicon processors, including a 13-inch MacBook Pro, a 16-inch MacBook Pro, and a 13-inch MacBook Air.

The updated info on which Macs we can expect to see at the event comes direct from Bloomberg, with sources listed as "people familiar with the matter."
I think Bloomberg is wrong. Either 13" MacBook Air or MacBook Pro laptop a possibility, but a 16" MacBook Pro, umm no.

Will come with the iMacs I would think. Maybe a year from now?
But...but...they already have an ASi mini version. :) It just needs 'the real thing' CPU. My 2012's are doing great, but it would be fun to see what they come up with. Now 4TB of SSD just has to match the price of 2x2TB HDD...and have it be a mini that can be upgraded. OK, fat chance.

Well, in single-core, the iPhone is already on par or beating anything Intel or AMD can offer. A 8-core A14 with slightly higher clocks will handily outperform any i9 at a much lower power consumption
Ummmm except it won't. Not "any" i9. The i9 9900K wipes the floor with the A14. Yes, the latter has a much lower TDP, but its clock speed is rather laughable.

I don’t see the benefit of doing that, to be honest. The first AS Macs are going to sell, regardless. Then you get another bounce with the inevitable redesign.

Plus, I think you’d want as many AS macs in the wild as possible so software developers have incentive to start writing code natively for AS.

If you consider multi core performance, yes. But A14 is faster core per core. A 3.0 GHz A14 core is about the same speed as a 5.0 GHz Intel core. An 8-core variant of A14 would have multi-core performance of a 10-core Intel desktop CPUs while consuming 1/3 of power.
