No idea what that means thoughHis definition basically comes down to a hand waving argument. It's valid because it's valid.

That doesn't make any sense. By that definition, any product that accept peripherals is modular, yet the product description makes it sound like this is something new based on research and professional requests for a new modular system. You know what they mean, you just don’t like it.
Come on.
Modular. Modules (as you said). Pieces. Not whole. Main unit. Display. Mouse. Keyboard. Peripherals.
You know. You just don’t like it. Which is fine. But don’t pretend to not understand lol.
Are you just ignoring the fact that I have just described a use case whereby the word modular is accurate and fits exactly correctly? That doesn't make any sense. What exactly don't I like? I've already said I like this product. I have no complaints about this product. I'm going to buy this product. I like it. I don't want to upgrade the RAM. I don't want to slot in a new drive. I don't need PCIe slots. I like it. I like the product. The product is good. Good product. Product good. Confusion about marketing does not equate to Apple bashing.
Well, think about this.Watching the keynote I didn't get where the Mac Studio fit into the product line; like who's it for, and I still kind of don't.
Well the only thing they have to buy is a new computer and any display. Their old keyboard, mouse, etc. that they used with their iMac still works.Home and business owners who have used out of the box 27" iMac for years. Some were looking forward to upgrading to an M1 or an M2 27" iMac this year and are extremely disappointed. Most don't need or can afford a $2K display $200 keyboard and $2K cube studio or a $5K Mac Pro or an overpriced iMac Pro.
Apple needs to take a real hard look at the marketplace. I suggest taking a survey existing iMac and mac mini owners and not listen to out-of-touch marketing geniuses!
Good news! They can purchase a $1600 display!Home and business owners who have used out of the box 27" iMac for years. Yes there is.They should explain the gap between Mac mini and Mac Studio. There is no M1 Pro where 32GB RAM is possible.
BREAKING: If product cost less, additional people would buy itApple badly miscalculated the place in the market for this display.
Specs aren't good enough for "professional" users, which seem to be the target market of this "Studio" line and price is way to high for an average consumer, who maybe wants an Apple branded display for their mac mini or for their laptop.
If this same display was 1/2 the price people would be salivating over it.
nothing really new ... maybe except that Apple thinks the Studio display is for all Mac users, old and new HW - I'm not convinced given the price point
I see your point, but I think "modular" as opposed to "all-in-one," like the iMac, makes sense. For a lot of people, one is preferable to the other, maybe even required for the setting, and other distinctions don't matter as much.According to the article,
"Modular, in this sense, consisting of the Mac Studio offering two levels of M1 chip and a paired Studio Display."
I don't think you're misunderstanding the definition; it seems that they are. This is pretty weird, even for Marketing speak.
To be clear, I like the Mac Studio and I plan to buy one in the future, but describing it this way is strange and illogical. The Studio has a lot of things going for it; it is counterproductive to tout it as something that it clearly is not.

THIS. I don't even really care where they put it, just give me a reasonable M1 Pro option to replace my aging 2015 5k Retina iMac. I wouldn't even mind paying a little extra for the screen/computer combo instead of an all in one but I don't need an M1 Max or the price tag that comes with it.Where's the [M1 Pro] choices??? I don't want a MBP
I suspect a lot of us fall in-between M1 and M1 Max. And this is exactly what is doing—force us into a an overpriced (for our needs) model or be limited with the Mini/iMac (thats already 1-2yrs old).
Im in Audio Production and the extra GPUs are not a necessity for me. It really bothers me that has moved away from BTO of the past. Its not like the chips aren't there.
Where's the MacMini M1 Pro/Max?
How about the iMac M1 Pro/Max?
AHHH, the Mini Studio with a M1 Pro BTO option?!
I think its likely the dude just misspoke. The cheese grater Mac Pro was described as a "modular" successor to the trash can Mac Pro. The trash can was essentially the same concept as the Studio. Are you just ignoring the fact that I have just described a use case whereby the word modular is accurate and fits exactly correctly?
I still love the display of my 2017 27 iMac, so if it is "as good" I'll keep an open mind ... and the camera is supposed to be fixed, and, me, I don't really use the camera on my iMac ...Read the The Verge review, it's an overpriced PoS with nice speakers, an outdated display (SDR, LED backlite, poort blacks, same as 27" iMac) and a very very crappy built-in camera.
Not sure what Apple is thinking. With the 27" iMac gone.. the choice for me is Mac Studio + monitor or an Mac Mini + monitor. Hopefully they release a M2 Mac Mini still this year, with more RAM and more ports.
