Hey Tim how's your stock portfolio looking? You should get an award for the fastest way to lose 40 billion in market share in 2 days.

Ya we do think you are worried Lol

So on the eve of launching two separate phones with different specs and just days after launching a legacy app program and after yesterday's iOS7 release that I can't use on my less than two year old iPod, we're bashing Android for fragmentation?

legacy device compatibility isn't what fragmentation is about.

further, iOS devices have the longest lifespan in mobile.

It took an genius Apple mind to figure out that plastic is cheaper than aluminum when designing a phone.

This is innovation people.

you really have no idea what you're talking about.

apple has already done plastic phones, they know they're cheaper. as for innovation -- the C is, as the #2 iPhone has always been, last years tech. that's not where you go looking for innovation. to see that look at *this* years new model. plenty there.

----------

Stock price says otherwise LOL

the stock market is a figment of our collective imagination. profit and loss statements are real -- and nobody's is better than apple's. nobody's.

----------

Tim Cook says this about Android.. "And so by the time they exit, they're using an operating system that's three or four years old''.

Would that be the same as me buying a Mac Pro today? I'm using hardware which is older than 3-4 years old, and so out of date its a joke? Oh and I pay todays money for it? Mr Cook be careful what you say otherwise you will look silly.. You look silly and disrespectful Mr Cook and I am your customer base.

no it wouldn't to be the same, because any Mac Pro today comes with the latest, best OS. and that's what we're discussing, not hardware.

Apple does VERY VERY well. I think people confuse companies with stocks. They aren't the same.

by that metric Microsoft is a terrible loss and apple is a wondrous gain -- go back 10 years.

You have no idea wtf your talking about.android has nothing to do with Samsung specific hardware made to run on there phones. Do you think an HTC one running 4.3 will be able to use the Samsung gear?

Man you have no freaking clue.Samsung said there whole galaxy line will get an update that will bring support for there galaxy gear but getting a newer version of android is just a extra on top.

Last the freaking galaxy gear is not even out yet and not a single person has a note 3 yet and using the gear.Samsung said they will push a kies update to all there phones next month and guess what? That's the same freaking time the gear comes out so go figure.

How much you want to bet that the gs3,note2 and gs4 all get the latest android with support added in for there galaxy gear next month? Heck an att gs3 was just spotted with 4.3 today and its a final build number that will be pushed in a few weeks.

Again android version has nothing to do with galaxy gear working.you won't see a nexus being able to use the gear and those have been on 4.3 for a while now.

Give Samsung a freaking break and let them release the gear before you blame fragmentation for the gear not working.

"Freaking," fragmentation is the freaking reason the freaking Gear is only compatible with the freaking Note 3.

I certainly hope Samsung updates their software next month. That would benefit me and my GS4, but I won't be holding my breath.

“We never had an objective to sell a low-cost phone,” says Cook. “Our primary objective is to sell a great phone and provide a great experience, and we figured out a way to do it at a lower cost.”

Cook never said that??

FWasan't the iPhone 5C origionally said for the China market? Didn't Cook even say "We want a more affordable iPhone they can aford."

$100 off is hardly low cost, and in fact, if you looked recently, its actuallymore expensive than ever in China. $700 US equivilant.

Yes, and that $99 is on a contract, which by the way is like every phone you buy "cheap" from your carrier. This are also low-cost.
No. All the talk about who and why the 5c was made was all speculation.

Because it's last years phone being masqueraded in plastic as current gen

And it's priced accordingly, yes? $99 for last year's phone seems pretty standard.

There's the $199 new iPhone if want this year's model.

As for fragmentation. That argument is old. Especially because most people switch phones around 2 years (or less).

No, they don't. Don't mistake the tech savy people (and in that vein, the under 40 people) you know and message boards you read as most people.

by that metric Microsoft is a terrible loss and apple is a wondrous gain -- go back 10 years.

What? They show off there new devices and the stock loses what was it 25-30 billion in a day?

Ya they are worried and Tim is most def worried the stock holders don't vote to fire his ass and I'm sure this picture of him laughing saying us worry is pissing off a lot of people invested in apple

I find it kind of weird/funny 2 of them are using their phones with 2 hands, shouldn't they be touting that 1 handed use thing they like to throw around?

Lol. It's a picture pose. It makes it look more dynamic kinda like the video game ads w the kids moving the controllers all over the place.

Good grief...

Apple are like a supernova.. growing huge before the big bang. The over reliance on the iphone is so dangerous it beggars disbelief. Once Apple was an innovative cutting edge company, now they have to make lower cost goods using old tech to make up the numbers. This is a typical way US companies become once they are over large and lose the big personality at the top. Share holders want a return, not new tech as thats risky. More tweaking and high volume sales of what we have now please, but once your share starts to slide we will jump ship. Typical stock holders making typical decisions. Its about money now not about new ideas. Tim Cook is a good accountant and we all know what accountants do to companies. Mac sales down year on year yet again!

Congratulations! This is the dumbest most useless comment posted in this thread so far. It is also the perfect illustration of the old adage: "It's better to not say anything and let people think you are a fool, than open your mouth and remove all doubt."

I agree that the color choice could be better (same for iOS 7. I understand that they match each other but the colors are not great IMO)

But I think for most users that won't matter as they will have a case on it and it will look much like an iPhone 5 or 5S especially if you get the white one.

Plus, the cost of the iPhone 5c and the iPhone 5S over two years is really about the same: $100 difference over 24 months is $4. Tell me that person spending $80-100 a month on his iPhone 5C is cheap
I wish people would stop with the dumb math. It was dumb in 2007 and it is dumb now. Most people in the us have a monthly charge regardless of if their phone is subsidized or not.

So the actual difference is $100 or 50%. People want to do this stupid contract math when it is not applicable.

Android's fragmentation isn't an issue anymore.

how so? there's still a legion of brand new Android devices sold with Gingerbread. updates from ICS to JB aren't assured. I'm looking for my first smartphone and TBH Apple's non-contract prices are insane ($450 for iPhone 4S?). The GS3 is less money.

I'm looking for a sweet spot in the Droid universe, something with a nice mix of 'future proof' for a couple years, yet reasonably affordable. It's a headache.

I don't know if older Droid OSs get security updates, I don't know about app compatibility fall off ... the experience isn't the same from carrier-to-carrier, handset maker to handset maker ... it's a hot mess.

"Freaking," fragmentation is the freaking reason the freaking Gear is only compatible with the freaking Note 3.

I certainly hope Samsung updates their software next month. That would benefit me and my GS4, but I won't be holding my breath.

The note 3 is not even OUT YET and no fragmentation and android has nothing to do with galaxy gear.do you honestly think android made the software to use the galaxy gear and its hard programmed into 4.3?

Relax your gs4 will get the update to use the gear and Samsung waited to have it bundled in 4.3.you are complaining about not supporting hardware that is not freaking out yet

No, they don't. Don't mistake the tech savy people (and in that vein, the under 40 people) you know and message boards you read as most people.

Thank you for assuming I'm under 40 ;)

I do admit to a bad generalization. Which is why in subsequent posts I went on to say that most who hold on to their phones longer don't really care about OS updates since the core apps and APIs get updated regularly.

I also posed a question I'd love to see some survey on - and that is how many people buy a phone for what it can do for them today vs what they think or hope it might do in the future. I would imagine most people buy on the current possibilities - not future ones.

Finally - Apple taking control of the narrative! Now if they could just lower the price of the 5C to be truly mid-range and polish out all the little complaints we users post on MacRumors, it would be a good day.
