artist impression seems a bit wide for an iCockring. hopefully it will include a vibrating node and a wormseye cam for intimate moments.

Nope. The iPhone was a game changer as it did something new.

Erm.. no it didn't.. full touchscreen, web browser, camera, internet, music player...app store.. all available on smartphones.. not many granted.. but it definitely wasn't something new...

If Apple will be releasing an iWatch this year I expect you'll hear about it at WWDC. Google has announced Android Wear already well in advance of the hardware availability to give developers a head start which is exactly what Apple should do.

Sadly, since Apple utilizes a painstaking "try to get most of the way correct the 1st time & slowly iterate towards the goal of perfection" r&d approach, while many Android oems use an "über-rapid prototype... just get it in the wild; let's throw some ideas against the wall & see what sticks" approach, the longer they give between showing a design & features and the time the actual product ships, the slimmer period of time that they will have that "first-movers" advantage of being the only company with a product that does "X Y Z", before the me-tooers show up.
What you describe is horribly detrimental to anybody but Apple's competition.

No, but it was the first implementation to appeal to the masses. Which is what Apple should aspire to do with a wearable.

I was actually interested in seeing what an Apple watch would bring. I sure hope it doesn't look like this or a smaller standard iOS screen.

These rumors and renderings make me nervous. I was/am considering being open to the idea of a smartwatch. I expect the apple version to be expenseive, my guess $399. But I have learned from experience that anything on my arm must be waterproof and have a Sapphire crystal or else it wont survive for any period of time. Without that that there is no point in me buying one. Flexible circuit boards make me think curved display which leads to no sapphire. Time will tell I guess.

People sad the same thing about the iPhone... Wearables are the future and Apple would be foolish to not push the envelope into this market. You will be singing a whole different tune a few years from now.

I doubt that.
also I don't recall people saying same thing about iPhone.
I am almost sure these wearable devices will sell poorly and won't have any major success or appeal.they are unnecessary.

That wasn't the point, being that the first iPhone was something new... When it was just a collection of existing ideas squeezed Into a shiny box..

Totally agree I don't think Apple is working on a watch in the conventional sense. I think its going to be more of a wrist band type device that is simply a vehicle to attach electronics and sensors to the wearer. It's probably going to be able to act as a watch if you really need it to but not replace a more traditional time piece which is as much a piece of jewellery as simple time piece and an expression of taste and individuality. I still think no one has any idea what the concept will be but a traditional watch is almost certainly way off.

I agree with you. Too many users here on MR are taking the word "Watch" and running with it to run down the idea. Sure, you probably can tell the time on it - but the only thing it shares in common with a watch will be that the user wears it on the wrist. Every time I see one of those mockups that look like a Swatch watch with iOS on it my stomach churns.

It WAS something new. It was a new implementation of touch screens and functions.

It also DID something new... It made smartphones fun to use. It brought them outside the world of corporate enterprise and to the masses.

Is this where we have got to now... Re writing history into the version we want remembered...

So you are saying the iPhone was the first all touchscreen mobile phone....

I'm not even gonna bother correcting that.. you obviously won't believe the answer....

You really don't read well, do you?

I never once said it was the first all touchscreen mobile phone. I said it was a new implementation, using multi touch and the all new iPhone OS.

Look, you can argue until you're blue in the face about touch screen phones, smart phones, etc. etc. But the fact of the matter is that Apple's iPhone was the first one to make an all touchscreen mobile phone a useable device that people actually wanted to buy.

You are so right.. apart from the millions of LG pradas that got sold, no one wanted touchscreen devices.. Good point..

The LG Prada sold 1 million units in the first 18 months. The iPhone came out about 6 months into that, and sold over 6 million in its first 5 quarters. So, yeah, I'd say my point was valid.

I haven't seen the Moto 360 watch mentioned anywhere yet. It's supposed to be coming out this summer. It doesn't look bad to me. Thoughts?
