Of course if the new MBP benches at 13,000 in Geekbench 5 as expected with the new Apple Silicon chip, and most importantly, delivers in terms of real life experience as well, these will sell like hot cakes.

Ha it’s just tongue in cheek guys. I thought that would go without saying.
No need for tongue in cheek. I actually welcome the return of the SD card reader. Since SSD's can no longer be replaced it's the only way to expand storage without having to use external disks. I got a Nifty Minidrive in my MB (Early 2015) giving me up to 1Tb of extra storage and it is working well for years now.

What a surprise that a Notebook with an SD card slot, HDMI port, a 1080p webcam and real function keys would result in higher demand.

SD card slot - Absolutely no use to me
HDMI port - Absolutely no use to me
1080p webcam - Really should be the minimum in this day and age. However, I very rarely use the one on my current 16" MacBook Pro and when I do need to use it it's adequate.
Real function keys - Losing the Touch Bar will be a loss of productivity for me. I use better touch tool to configure the Touch Bar for each app and it really is good (not perfect but good). It's a shame Apple never put much effort into the Touch Bar within it's own products. If they had then maybe third party developers would have utilised it more.

I guess I'm in the minority and of course everybody's use case is different but this new machine will be in many ways a worse product (for me) than my current MacBook Pro. Of course there will be other ways where it's much better than my current machine but I'll probably keep my current MacBook Pro for a few years.

I don't. And I don't know personally any one that does. They are legacy ports. Apple made a bold step into the future a few years ago and it looks like they are about to nervously jump back. Shame.
Well I do. And having to carry a dongle around is a PITA. Guess what? You don’t have to use it. Problem solved.

This doesn't surprise me. I'm one of those who'll be adding fuel to that fire. I'm making the jump from Windows to Mac when I replace my old, nearly-dead, laptop and it looks like the forthcoming MacBook Pros are just what I'm looking for. We've already had our 'pilot project' for replacing my wife's Intel NUC desktop when it failed earlier this year. I replaced it with a new M1 MacBook Air and she's VERY happy with it.

Once upon a time, everyone wanted a 1.44MB floppy disc drive. Another time, people just couldn't live without their CD-burning superdrives.
thats because a 64mb usb storage was like 50 bucks, with the advent of cheaper solid state storage ofcourse the floppy and cd disk went away. the world hasn't catch on to usb-c yet, so the inconvenience haven't been offset by the justification.

As much as I agree with this statement.

Nothing has come close to replacing SD cards for high end cameras and things like 3D printers which run best with direct media.

Now if Apple could realise a SDK for 3rd parties to adopt AirDrop…. That could begin the shift.

I’m not a laptop guy, but they even got ME wanting one. 😂

Not really, but I’m very curious how they’ll turn out. Funny how Apple adds things like TouchBar or removes things like ports, ticks people off for a few years and then adds them back— winning over everyone.

These are going to sell like crazy.

I dont know a single person in real life who’s ever stated or implied they wanted an SD Card Slot.
I do. I have over a decade of photography and videos stored on the things. (And in other places. But it is still the medium used by all my current cameras.)

On the contrary, I think 8/256 is expected.

Unless Apple has lost their minds, upselling RAM, storage, and now cores is how their business model works.
I really hope that you're wrong, but I know that you're probably going to be right, if that makes sense.

If they can charge 200-300 EUR/USD for more RAM and another 200-300 EUR/USD for a larger SSD, I can't imagine the current Apple not going there.

And I'm just typing away on my 2010 13 inch MBP still lol. It's been my old trusty friend. I shut it off only a few times a year otherwise it's on 24/7 and used 8-9 hours a day. Maybe I will upgrade to the new pro or new Air. I would love a 15 inch air but that probably won't happen.

Same here for both SD-Card slot and – lo and behold - HDMI. If you need to present at a customer, have fun with your Thunderbolt…

If every MacBook user has a dock, there is something wrong with your device.

And of course an AMD 16" MB with a bit more RAM will sell like crazy. This is the machine a LOT of people are waiting for, and have their cash ready to spend.
