Just wait until Monday when there will be no lines and ATT will have fixed the horrendous server crashes that caused chaos all day Friday. :)
And maybe no more phones except a few dribbling in each day. I actually don't know: what's the expectation -- will there be enough supply this time or will they be in short supply the first few weeks?

I've been debating ATT store v. Apple store...I think this clinches it for the Apple Store. I can't see ATT having this kind of manpower.

...nor the coordination. I just attempted to get "iReady" at the AT&T store in the local mall (ironically just down the hall from Apple). The guy at the counter told me not to worry, the whole "iReady" thing on AT&T's website was unnecessary and misleading. He said if I did a credit check today I'd just have to do another one when I bought the iPhone.

I don't recall this much confusion when the original iPhone launched....

Does anyone know how many iPhones each apple store got on average last year?

I just cannot see this happening. 30 customers at a time??? and I assume there will be some cooperation with the att system since you have to bring your att password. I think even 50 per hour seems ambitious.

Hah are they going to turn away other customers who just want a regular phone on Friday? I remember being in line last year and as it was getting close to launch time they we're turning people away!

Authorized Users- Retail Store

If you are an authorized user you can make changes without the account holder. Just go to www.wireless.att.com and log in. You'll be presented with the Account Overview. On the left-hand side click on ACCOUNT PROFILE. At the bottom of the page you'll see Authorized Users - Retail Store. All you have to do is "add user" and save the changes. This is what I had to do and hopefully it'll work! Good luck!

My wife called to add me as an "authorized user" on our account (recently married so her last name and mine don't match up) so that I can purchase both phones on Friday but when I check that section it DOES say "AUTHORIZED USERS-RETAIL STORE" however underneath it states "Please enter the first and last name of the user you want to authorize to make changes on this account in an AT&T Retail Store. Select 'Save' to add this authorized user."

Key word is AT&T Retail Store so I am not sure if that would be the same at Apple Retail.

Hmm, I'm not exactly sure what to do in your case. I set up the AT&T stuff because I won't even be close to an Apple store on Friday. I'm sure someone will be able to answer that question before the launch. Maybe go into or call your local Apple store?

Has anyone seen any indication of per store supply? If each store will receive, for instance, 400 units on launch day, do they expect they'll be sold out by noon? Or will there be plenty of stock for those of us who plan on showing up mid afternoon instead of camping in line to get it first?

i have been wondering the same thing!

Can we thank all the unlockers for this crap?

iPhone 1.0 was simple, and i could do it on my own time. In and out of the store in 2 minutes, then 5 minutes at home. Now I have to, like, talk to people and stuff? Doesn't sound all that much improved.

Do you really think there will be any phones on Monday? I am thinking they will be sold out on Friday.

This is why I am taking the day off. My boss called me a geek...I just smiled. :D

Unfortunately, that's what I have to do - scheduled to work that day :-(. But I bet I'll be in and out of there faster then the people on Friday.

I just hope my AT&T store still HAS some.

Went to ATT store

Asked them if I could get a credit check today to speed things up on Friday. I'm an ATT subscriber w/out an iPhone that's upgrade eligible.

They said that I'm totally fine and that they won't need to run a credit check on me being that I'm already an ATT customer.

They basically said if you are absolutely sure you're upgrade eligible, all you need to do is come in (doesn't matter which location, Apple or ATT) and buy the phone.

Excellent news, IMO.

Apple's estimate on supply

Was something to the effect of 750 to 1000 iPhones per store (Wow), which means, considering that there's two models of 16GB, would mean something like 375-500 8GBs and 187(.5)-250 of each model of 16GB. Maths is your friend.

Received my 3G iPhone this morning. I have MBP so transferring all my contacts was simple. After drooling over the phone and taking pictures for my friends in the USA I started the set up:)

The whole process was about 10 mins:p

Unbelievable. Here in Japan, I spent about an hour and twenty-five minutes getting my iPhone set up. No joke. I had to sign multiple forms in triplicate indicating that I was aware of the need for a PC or Mac, iTunes 7.7, etc ... Utterly ABSURD.

What a bleedin' mess

You would have thought Apple would have learned from last year. The average time a person spent in the store I was at was close to 30 minutes. No activation in store. No activation at home - can't get onto the servers! Big disappointment again!

I was upgrading from the 2 1/2G iPhone. I had an outstanding contract so I had nothing to sign.

I must admit, i was amazed, then I thought:cool: I'm an existing customer on a £45 a month contract, they (O2) made sure I got my free iPhone and kept me as a loyal customer:D

Johnson believes that it will take 10-15 minutes to set up a customer with iPhone 3G service, and plans to handle about 100 customers an hour.

LOL-LOL-LOL-LOL
BS-BS-BS-BS-BS

Apple Inc. broke my spirit on this one. 5.5 hours in line at the only Apple Store that ran out. They were processing at 15 people per hour.

I was #11 at the Apple Store Bellevue Square line. It took me about ~40 mins inside to store, from hunting down a blue t-shirt guy to shaking my hand with the guy who set up my phone.

I did expect the long activation time beforehand.

haha, that's what the apple "iPhone specialist" told me yesterday morning as we sat around inside the apple store on the phone with AT&T. What a joke, I hope they have gotten the time down after a disastrous day one. I was in the apple store for over 2 hours (from 8:20 to 10:30) and I didn't even walk out with an activated iPhone. I guess most of the problems can be stuck on the crashed servers or w/e but the expected 15 minutes just seems like a joke to me.
