Not sure on this point, the M1 and future processors have higher transistor counts so performance will go up (unless architecture changes the way instructions are completed). Only time I can remember an older product being better was AMD Bulldozer being worse the Phenom X series.
The iPad Pros (12.9 and 11) are the oldest iPads still available. Months later Apple released newer iPads that were not M1. The iPad Pros are listed by MR as "don't buy.".

Albeit my first laptop was 200 MHz and ran apps side by side with Windows 95. I remember upgrading my Windows 3.1 desktop to Windows 95 so I understand everyones pain for not getting the update. But I also understand why Apple wants the experience to be at a specific level. I can't wait to use it with my M1 iPad Pro.

So, your reasoning is: "Apple has decided that old chips would not run the way they wanted, because they have assessed the technology."

Which boils down to "Apple said so".

It has to do with trust. Eiter you trust Apple or you don't.

If you don't trust them, you should buy their products and services.

I trust Apple and I trust that they will tell the main reasons why they won't support old hardware. Usually its a mix between technical and business reasons.

But it doesn't really matter if the reasons were purely a business reason. I consider business reasons to be better than technical reasons.

It’s funny but I posted a time stamp of MaxTech’s video 10:20 I believe on the developer flags showing A-X/Z had support for this feature and was dropped. Some keep asking for proof Apple made a business decision over technical one… there it is.

Again anyone running the beta should submit feedback.

Apple is a business.

Shouldn't you expect they make business decisions all the time and that such decisions are better than technical ones?

Why do you believe a technical decision is better than a business decision for a business?

What would you call the massive “You can use your Pro as a Laptop!” campaign?

Maybe a new term: Marketing Promise.

Or maybe once again “Marketing Gimmick”.

So point to an example of this campaign and exactly what's in it which constitutes a promise for it to work like a Windows or Mac laptop.

Sure if you don’t mind yearly updates on $1000 iPads this totally makes sense.

I’d sure love to have a business with some of the blind zealots in here, you’d never have to worry about technical criticism at all.

One of the 'business decisions' they have to make is, how valuable is consumer belief that Apple devices hold resale value?

For the skeptics, here is a screenshot of my iPad 7th gen with jailbreak running 5 windowed apps simultaneously with no difficulty. All are active windows And useable (albeit small). I could’ve kept adding apps as well.

Shame on Apple.

No one who has knowledge has said its impossible to implement multitasking on iPads or iPhones.

In fact, iPhones and iPads have supported multitasking since day 1. It's built into the OS.

People who wants to change the world for the better are some of the most dangerous people on earth and I would not like for them to infest Apple dedicated forums.

Oh, like that guy that died from a poisoned Apple.
What's his name? Right, Alan Turing.
Isn't he the guy who inspired Apple's logo?

But you're right. People who THINK DIFFERENT are the worst.

Here's a list of people I would be extremely happy lost confidence in Apple and removed themselves from the Apple ecosystem:
  • Wants touch-screen support on Macs
Why?

  • Wants be in full control of their iOS and iPad OS devices

Oh, God forbid someone actually has full control on a device they bought!
Would you like to let your government drive your car too?

  • Wants Apple to design their products to be easily repaiable

Yeah, God forbid too I can replace batteries or a keyboard on my own.
  • Wants iOS to be more like Android
  • Wants macOS to be more like Windows
  • Wants Apple to be more like Microsoft, Google or PC manufacturers

Which they have been doing, most ironically. Even Rene Ritchie admitted to Apple and Google copying each other.
The most recent example being custom iOS 16 notifications.

And here is my non jailbroken 2018 iPP technically running 4 apps at once, so multitasking is certainly possible on the non M1 iPads.

Multitasking on IOS was possible in 2007 on the first iPhone. It was built into the OS. In fact, the OS itself is multitasking.

I wanna support your argument, but that's a bit of a stretch. Are you suggesting freezing apps is a form of multitasking?

Exactly. I have seen so many people here say that you shouldn't expect new features on older devices, so can we all agree that "software support" should no longer be considered a bullet point in Apple's favor?

It doesn't bother me much either. What bothers me is Apple's disastrous PR, going with an outright lie ("the old iPad does not support multitasking") and then trying to change that to "the old iPad can actually multitask, but it doesn't perform as we expect".
This is being written from the point of view of people who are maybe not as technically literate as some MR posters.
Had they stood silent, or even said "we have done that due to financial decisions" would still be horrible, but at least I would respect them a little more.
To that I call baloney.

Stop pulling non-sense out of thin air. OS X at its core has pre-emptive multitasking and memory management since it’s inception. It’s the core reason Apple even bought NeXTStep.

iOS shares most of the basic kernel and low-level code with OS X / macOS.

iOS has built-in pre-emptive multitasking and the same memory management mechanism as macOS.

It's just that iOS and iPad OS just takes more control and disallows the user/developer to run applications simultaneously and use too much memory.

Did Steve not say “Desktop Architecture and Desktop Apps” when iPhone was introduced?
