And sometimes those nefarious things are actual reality that people are outright dismissing because they’re nefarious and think Apple is incapable of doing wrong.
Oh, I’ve no doubt they’re reality and, at the same time, completely unprovable, which ONLY makes them more real. I mean, Apple only sells products to feed Tim Cook’s cocaine habit. They keep him out of rehab because if he ever went, and got off the drugs, Apple would shut down the next day.

Can’t prove it’s NOT true, so it MUST be reality.

More often than not, the easiest explanation is often the correct one though. The M1 proved a convenient cut off point for the stage manager features that Apple wanted to implement (both now and in the future), and they likely don’t feel it’s worth their engineering resources to come up with a neutered version for older iPads which probably won’t work as well, and won’t support subsequent iterations.

People are looking for conspiracy theories in places where there are none. They are incapable of accepting that the world does not revolve around them and thankfully, it doesn’t.

This isn’t about the world revolving around people. It’s the blatant insulting of one group from another when there are disagreements, case in point … your response.

Can’t prove it in either direction, just taking Apple at their word, even though they’ve been known to make blatant fibs, but we’re still free to discuss them in an open forum. There’s been compelling ideas from both sides, but when insults start happening, it’s no longer a discussion, it’s just childish rhetoric. I’m not against Apple, I’m against Apple doing stupid things for sometimes seemingly arbitrary reasons, but I still value and greatly appreciate their products.

Hopefully, this explains why.

Look at what has monopolised the bulk of the forum’s attention these past weeks.

1) iPhone 7 not getting iOS 16. After being supported for 5 years.
2) stage manager not coming to non-M1 iPads. After complaining that M1 ipads didnt get anything special last year.
3) a dual port charger released by Apple. It’s a freaking optional charger and nothing is stopping people from getting a cheaper one elsewhere.

To me, it simply feels less of trying to hold Apple to task and more of being contrary for the sake of being a contrarian.

Seriously, is this the hill you all want to die on? Whining that a phone doesn’t get a sixth year of software updates?

I agree with all of this. I just wish this forum would allow opposing viewpoints a little better. This topic isn't particularly black and white though. Apple has had a history of being caught redhanded with things that contradict what they've said, and only until it's been pointed out do they make changes. One of the bigger ones in recent memory was Apple's big push when talking about privacy, and it was discovered that Siri was recording nearly everything everyone says and the audio was being analyzed by employees that work on Siri. They then introduced a feature to opt out of Siri listening to our conversations after the backlash they received (and I won't go into their complete and utter lack of privacy features on Apple devices in China to appease the CCP). Apple has a bumpy track record and it isn't unbelievable for Apple to do something like purposely making this multitasking feature use excessive resources to the point that only their latest hardware can run it so that it forces people to upgrade if they want to use it. It's also very possible that it just is what it is and requires more RAM, and Apple being so diligent to use paltry RAM in their devices and bragging about efficiency over RAM is now turning out to bite them in the butt, or at least their customers. Apple isn't exactly hurting financially with their historic choice to limit RAM in their devices. Turns out RAM is actually quite necessary for certain things.

Can’t prove it in either direction,
That’s what I said, it can’t be proven so, as far as reality is concerned, “Apple sacrifices puppies in order to keep their iPad sales high” is just as real as “iPads have batteries.”

One can’t put a requirement of “compelling” on the ideas, though. Then, you’re just back to saying one set of ideas are more valid than the other. If all ideas are equally plausible, then they’re plausible regardless of how compelling they are.

There should be a third person saying “a double you irrigated with the blood of innocents”. :) While two of those folks have a point of view based on something they both recognize (one fellow could just walk to the other side), there is NO WAY anyone’s going to get “a double you irrigated with the blood of innocents” to see either a 6 OR a 9. :D

Would it be folly to try? Perhaps.

Making ridiculous analogies clearly rooted in condescension to try and make a point is the exact behavior I’m referring to and only reinforces what I just said.

This is utter nonsense and you’re trying to make this sound overly philosophical when it isn’t. Having a request that both sides sound reasonable is called healthy debating. Apple sacrificing puppies would not be an example of being reasonable. Please don’t insult my intelligence by trying to talk down to me by overanalyzing what I said. What I said can be broken down into two things: Be nice to each one and be reasonable. It’s not complicated.

iPhones and low RAM compared to competitors… yeah I don’t like it. Most of the time I don’t feel it, but when I do, yes it ****ing annoys me. But you gotta take the good with the bad.

People here complaining about features have never used an iPhone 3G with IIRC iOS 3.1.2. That phone should have never gotten it’s last update. So when people complain about not getting a feature try using a phone that should not have gotten an update.

Maybe, but why try to make new features work with old hardware that is approaching end of support?

I get it, nice for the customer, but as far as apple is concerned, it is adding complexity to the codebase for hardware that won't be viable for many more years.

And un-necessary complexity in software is a major source of bugs.
4th gen iPad Air is approaching the end of support? I think not quite yet.

You’re right. As a former iPhone 3G owner, I should wait for a 3rd gen M. First and second will quickly obsolete.
iPad 3rd gen was a dud though 😂
And iPad 2 was one of the longest supported ipad, only beaten by the iPad Air 2.

M3 (presumable with 3nm) will definitely be better if Apple kept the 5nm M2 for the 2022 ipad Pro.
