I don't think there will be any earth-shattering announcement of a merger or "strategic partnership" with any company in the near term, certainly not in the next 24 hours. Apple might find a use for a broader distribution channel in another area down the road, and dip it's toes in the PC pool once more, but in general they will remain a lone wolf, surviving or not, on their own terms. Thank goodness for that.

I have mixed feeling with this.. Maybe it could be nice? DOn't think it'll ever happen, though...

Below is a photo I found posted on SpyMac, and originally uploaded to IpodFrance by a user who's name I am not sure of. Whether this photo is real or not, I am not sure. Most people are saying its Photoshopped. Either way, I wouldn't mind owning it!

That design definitely would not be my preference. Just don't care for white.

I would also feel uncomfortable with a computer on the wall. It is a system that would definitely require professional installation.

There's no way in hell that HP corporate would allow Jobs and Ives to operate as they have been. Evidence? Look at what HP sells. They push budget and cut-rate computers that are propped up by the other electronics and server market.

In other words, neither company has the same direction or philosophy and they would clash. Apple is high-margin, high-end, and using hardware that's nonstandard, while HP is the exact opposite.

I generally agree with you that an Apple/HP merger would not be a match made in heaven, but I don't think the reason is that HP sells cheap stuff. It's not unusual at all for a company to feature products at very different price points. Gap (Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic) and Ford (Focus, Jaguar, etc.) are two perfect examples of companies that serve totally different demographics with products that are only categorically simple.

I think a merger between HP and Apple COULD work fine in a perfect world, but the risk that it wouldn't is substantial.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the hints on adding attachments.

Obviously I just needed to scroll down further. I guess I'm just used to sites designed for win98 ... simple and unsophisticated. I knew it was easy & I just didn't see the additional tools I was looking for. Although I am a forum newbie I've been using solely Apples since Apple III and before, an early adopter. I guess I just need a 30" Cinema HD Display, so that I won't have to scroll down so much. Maybe next year...I thought my 17" was nice.

HP/Apple -- a partnership is more where I mean to go, rather than merger. Partnership has already started. I think that Apple could have a compelling enough product with the iMac G5, that HP may want in so they could offer a broader choice of products, and OSs) and Apple may need HP to help get them out the door if it sells like hot cakes. Think of it as HP renting manufacturing to Apple. But HP gets the right to resell "non price competitively", there by effectively licensing the OS while leaving Apple independent. This would (will) give Apple a massive marketing advantage. HP will be (has already) spending big money on advertising for both companies. Merger would be years or more, only after the world tosses out their windows software dependance. This could, however, open a lot of eyes to what Apple has to offer. And the fact is Apple needs to be able to meet huge demand when they come out with a product that screams "done right." If they had met demand they would have sold far more iPods in the holiday seasons. HP can help with this. HP can and will sell the hell out of Apple products.

HP could start selling Airport, Airport Express to go with the iPod's and MediaPC's with iTunes. or just to go with their printers (or in their printers)

Watch this grow.

I will take several steps but look for this partnership to move in the opposite direction from the RealNetworks/Apple partnership. this will be awesome for Apple and the computer using world. A breath of fresh Aqua will wash over the world. Wait for home-on-iPod... what will HP do with that if they only offer windows. sell mac's also, to get all the features of an iPod?

What could HP do with xServe/xServeRAID/Cluster Super Computing.

They could co-develop better products than any other two companies.

no merger will happen soon, but acquisitions along the way are likely
besides, why merge when you can just, co-operate?
HP/Hewlett-Packard and Apple both have great Brand Recognition why trade two for one. Why eliminate one when you can have an "Apple iPod + (from) HP" as in the comercials. But IMHO they might become co-dependant companies.

if it works, here's my image:

does anyone have details on the new isight mount? maybe the mount was changed, so it can be mounted on the new imacs.

"On top is a magnet for conveniently mounting an iSight camera. There is no stand to break off, no sticky adhesive."
