How about: "A Super Computer on your Wall"... could be talking about the new iMacs. If you seen the couple of pictures that have slipped (don't know if they're real, but supposing they are...) they look very "hangable". That's probably it. I don't think the PowerBooks are going to make another BIG SPLASH until they're upgraded with G5 chips and then we could probably expect some cosmetic changes. Nothing incredibly radical, but at least perfected somehow (God only knows how on that one).

A hangable option for the iMac got lots of attention on these boards a few months ago when the pizza box rumors were all the rage, but the impression I've been getting lately is that it's going to be on an easel or some sort of stand.

A wall-mounting option for the iMac makes great sense if Apple is going to market the iMac as more of an entertainment device. I haven't gotten the impression that Apple has this in mind, but it's not a bad thought either.

G5 iMac with cameleon function!!!

The new iMac G5 has a cameleon function to change color to mood etc..

But, unfortunatly, as a cause of a bug, the iMac has a strange habit of scaring the living **** out of people by camouflage itself away and sneek up on people!

New Imac?

Below is a photo I found posted on SpyMac, and originally uploaded to IpodFrance by a user who's name I am not sure of. Whether this photo is real or not, I am not sure. Most people are saying its Photoshopped. Either way, I wouldn't mind owning it!

yikes. no thank you.

Wow!
If the new iMac looks like that I don't care about the specs! =)

I want one!

EDIT: Although I'm pretty sure that it won't look like that...

Slick, but I still wish that all the guts would be in the base and up the chimney of the stand. Then, any VESA compliant LCD could attach to it, and maybe Apple would offer a headless version for those people who just won't shut up about it. :)

That reminds me of those commercials with the iMac moving around, especially the one with the person walking past and the iMac looking at them. They could put a whole new twist on that with a camouflage iMac.

Here's my PC specs-comparable to the iMac, especially the video card in particular:
Here's the system specs I'm running Far Cry on:
CPU:Intel(R) Pentium 2.40GHz
Motherboard: Jetway 845GDML
RAM: 512MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM
HD:Maxtor 6E040LO 40GB, 18.5GB free
Graphics Card:Jetway FX5200
VRAM:128MB

And what my ideak entry-level or mid-range new iMac configuration should have:
CPU:G5-1.6/1.8/2.0 970FX
Motherboard: U3-Lite, 900MHz FSB
RAM: 512MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM-the same as my PC
HD:80/160GB to 250GB BTO
Graphics Card:FX5200 or a ATI 9200SE/9600-similar to eMac or 1.6GHz G5
VRAM: 64MB, 128MB BTO -if heat issues is not a problem
Other: something similar to Intel HD Audio (5.1 or 7.1 output, optical audio in/out), FW400
Airport Extreme
SuperDrive 8x
Software:AW 6.2, Mac OS X 10.3.5 (a iMac specific build), similar iMac software bundle to G4 but with
Media-Blasters Invader ZIM Vol: Doom, Doom,Doom and Vol 2: Progressive Stupidity (out also on the day of the keynote-Aug 31):
http://media-blasters.com/zim.cfm

Why would I include that:One of my favourite Nick shows, very popular at Amazon and Hot Topic. Would appeal to families with kids who watch or have access Nickelodeon. Region 1-NTSC only (but would work fine in countries with R2/R4 region codes or use PAL).

HP delivers Linux laptop, but why's an iMac on the desktop icon?

HP delivers Linux laptop, but why's an iMac on the desktop icon?

http://zdnet.com.com/1606-2-5298692.html

From a ZDNET video story about HP w/ Linux:
about 30 seconds into the video clip. they zoom in on the desktop, the iMac image is part of an icon for "My Computer", third one down in the close up. realplayer needed

I wonder if HP licensed this iMac image from Apple. Can they do that otherwise? Did the linux guys license it? Maybe HP is going to license OS X from Apple and this is just a precursor? Some hefty foreshadowing for the HP/Apple Team if this is a hint of what's to come. Apple obviously needs some manufacturing help to meet demand. HP is #2 in hardware sales. Apple is the best at software (IMHO). Together they can buy Dell/Microsoft in three years!

IBM (awesome what they have in the pipline. multi-core chips. new open hardware/development strategy. they are talking about a chip able to have up to 64 processors (one chip) and able to run 640 operating systems simultaneously. their direction is a magnanimous sea change in processor design),

Motorola on phones (maybe this becomes a PDA/phone with OSXmini)

Freescale, what does their (dual core) 64 bit offering look like?

Sprint/Quicktime (more companies to come) They will soon want apple hardware to deliver the content with. This will drive xserve/xserveRAID sales, and reveal to businesses the power of OS X, xGrid and cluster computing, super-computing for the masses.

Super Computing - Apple has a 2 orders of magnitude price advantage on the competition in just 1-2 years in the business. (actually in their first offering in the space)

iTMS-volume discount (plug in marketing)

HP/Apple here we come...which one will buy the other?

My prediction, fwiw....

Schiller: Oh, and, uh, one more thing...

Curtains open. Steve walks onstage to thunderous applause. He demos the "secret" features of the iPod.

Hey, it could happen....

I was thinking more of a "appears on iChat"... :)

in the article about the new imac it says stevie is doing the keynote and not phil.
could this just be a mistake or is there something ...unexplained... going on.

I'd though about this myself over the weekend and after reading one analyst's comments that HP's wide distribution channel could lead to HP selling more iPods than Apple. That would be great for Apple, since every one of those sales is going to represent an iTMS customer that won't have any use for MSN, Real, Wal-Mart, etc.

What would an HP/Apple look like? Based on current share prices and last 12 months of financials, Apple shareholders would own about 20 percent of the combined company, and Apple would generate about 8 percent of total revenues and total earnings.

Steve/Carly would either be the catfight of the century or a dream team, but the merger would never happen unless both of them wanted it.

Apple would be relatively expensive at its current price for HP, since Apple's price-to-earnings ratio is way higher than HPs.

I think it would be a great thing for Apple if HP planned to leave it alone, let it operate as a largely autonomous unit and develop synergies between the two without forcing HP's culture down Apple's throat. Personally, I'd rather see a long-range partnership than a merger.

Still, the deal would only happen if Steve and Carly wanted it.

iCreate is a glossy mag with a much earlier deadline than a newsweekly or newspaper. I'm guessing this was printed prior to the disclosure that Steve had cancer.

Crap.

There's no way in hell that HP corporate would allow Jobs and Ives to operate as they have been. Evidence? Look at what HP sells. They push budget and cut-rate computers that are propped up by the other electronics and server market.

In other words, neither company has the same direction or philosophy and they would clash. Apple is high-margin, high-end, and using hardware that's nonstandard, while HP is the exact opposite.

I think it would be a great thing for Apple if HP planned to leave it alone, let it operate as a largely autonomous unit and develop synergies between the two without forcing HP's culture down Apple's throat. Personally, I'd rather see a long-range partnership than a merger.

I'd rather see neither, myself, but I'm swallowing the current playtime with HP because it's a done deal. The last time Apple trusted other manufacturers, they were horribly burnt and in a death spiral. If there's an acquisition, it will be to Apple's - and our - detriment.

There is only one thing that HP has to offer Apple, but ridiculous ammounts that Apple can offer to the larger company. Increased manufacturing and distribution channels wouldn't make up for the loss of freedom and cutthroat model that HP pursues. Dell is going down in the next five years, precisely because they're going to be competing against the Chinese companies that are building these machines. It's not going to be long before ridiculously cheap Linux boxes start coming out of Asia and companies like HP won't be able to keep up on the desktop without having something special to offer.

Apple does, in the form of its OS and whole-package solutions, not to mention the style and functionality of their designs. That's what's let them survive against the whole PC industry for this long.

but where are you linking the image to (mine is on my desktop)

You need to upload your image onto a website, like a .mac homepage or space given to you by your ISP. The easiest way though is link to the place where you found the image, if you got it from the web in the first place. To do this, load the webpage with the image in it, right click on the image and select "Open image in new tab" or "Open image in new window" you can then easily copy the URL from the address bar into your forum post between the
tags. That's what I do anyway.

Apple has only courted the enemy with this iPod arrangement as a means to fortify the position of both the iPod and iTMS through massive distribution. They have not licensed the technology, only attempted to reach another audience - the non-cutting edge PC buyer who never realised they could use an iPod with Windows. Sadly, this is actually probably a large group of people.
I don't think there will be any earth-shattering announcement of a merger or "strategic partnership" with any company in the near term, certainly not in the next 24 hours. Apple might find a use for a broader distribution channel in another area down the road, and dip it's toes in the PC pool once more, but in general they will remain a lone wolf, surviving or not, on their own terms. Thank goodness for that.

You should see a button to Manage Attachments right below where it says Submit Reply and Preview Post (under Additional Options) when you go to post or reply to something. If you don't see it, maybe you have to be a regular instead of a newbie. It's been awhile, I don't remember, so you might want to read the Site FAQ for more info.
