New palmtop?

I'll make another guess: it's an Apple palmtop that runs the full version of OS X, but it's also the first Intel computer from Apple. Nice way to give PDAs a run for their money, test OS X86 on the public and give those "iTablet" rumors a rest.

Hey, if I keep repeating it before every keynote/event, eventually, I'll be right. :D

Aaahhh... It's probably just where they're keeping the coffee, mountain dew and danishes for the people manning the booth.

(see, this is what you have to do. Build *low* expectations, then the surprise is all the better)

Great, a widescreen ibook to tide us over till the intel powerbooks. It could be why they simplified the ibook line to make room for the new choices.

I sure hope it happens as my ibook died on me, logic board failure, and need a computer NOW.

Indeed! Maybe it's not danishes, but MUFFINS! Or even DONUTS!

I can't wait!

Mine died too (logic board), and they won't accept the recall because it's older than 3 yrs. What a rip. I need my iBook back.

Powerbooks and Powermacs in a one-two power punch!

Black just says it all, doesn't it? :D

Isn't the logic board failure covered by Apple's special extended warranty?

Intel powered laptops so soon? I think Apple would be wasting money to put more investment into a dead processor (PowerPC) at this time. x86 is the future so I would be suprised to see anything big come out of Apple until the Intel models are introduced.

If you are dreaming of some super cool, super fast PPC stuff coming in the next few months...keep dreaming. I am sure that 95% of Apple's resources right now are focused on "Intel Inside."

Maybe, but remember 95% of Apple's resources less than a year ago were being spent on G5 PB development. Did they just drop everything or will they release an updated PPC PB? Besides there is no pro software Yet and it won't be avaliable for 1 - 2 years. Apple's Intel PB may not be out for 18 months for all we know. 18 months is plenty of time to recover your costs on a popular seller.

"How long is the Expanded iBook Logic Board Repair Extension Program available?
The program covers affected iBooks for three years after the first retail sale of the unit or until March 18, 2005, whichever provides longer coverage for you. Apple will continue to evaluate the repair data and will provide further repair extensions as needed."

It died last week, so no luck there. And I stupidly did not pay much attention to the recall while waiting for a new worthwile powerbook to come out, since the g5 rumor phase......

well, if it just small speed bump, why would they cover the ibook or pb because form factor still remain the same anyway?

Did you get it fixed? I need to get mine fixed... If so, how much did they charge you?

How about a new version of the Airport Express? There have been video streaming suggestions about that for a while.

Would it really be iBooks if the only covered area is so small? Or could there be a much larger area we haven't seen? Anyone got a floor map or something to get an idea of where this covered area is?

what big products were released at last year's Paris Expo?

As already stated, iMac G5.

In 2003, it was the Bluetooth Mouse + Keyboard, with the new 15" PowerBook and updated 12" and 17" PowerBooks.

...
Speed bumps and minor updates don't take very many resources, especially if the processor is a pin compatible upgrade. if Apple doesn't so some upgrades, systems sales will start to slump badly.

I'm sure we'll see some unexpected PowerPC upgrades before Intel based Macs start shipping.

all i know is...

my new powerbook is underneath one of those black cloths. :)

I think what you meant is more along the lines of "my new powerbook is in a crate on a boat coming from Taiwan as we speak". ;)

No, 95% of Apple's resources are focused on the iPod. The rest may or may not be focused on Intel Inside.

if new products are released tomorrow, can you typically walk into an apple store on the same day and purchase them? or do you have to order from the apple store online for the first few days?

Most likely you'll have to order them online.. then wait for them to ship.. then wait again when the demand is too high and ship times get pushed back.. If it's a craptacular update, betcha $20, then expect them to be gathering dust on store shelves in a day or two.
