Yeah, but if there is no L3 cache, then why not use the MPC7447 instead of the 7457? (the difference being that the latter offers an L3 cache interface and the former doesn't)...
I expect that if Motorola haven't made many of the former chips, then when they do, Apple will migrate to using them.
Hopefully the double size full-speed L2 cache on the new processors will make up for the very large, but slower, L3 cache on the old systems.
