Maybe it will replace the awful Apple tv remote at one point and finally make Apple TV the gaming set-top box it could be.
[doublepost=1548256764][/doublepost]... and maybe Apple is doing a lot of things now that we've been expecting for years because the iPhone sales are down... (iTunes on Samsung etc...)

You also stated this in another thread, and I corrected you there. This is false, the A5 powered 5th gen received all updates up to and including iOS 9, just like the iPhone 4s, iPad mini and iPads 2 and 3. The A8 powered 6th gen is still supported on iOS 12 and I would fully expect it to be supported as long as the iPhone 6 series, and iPads Air 2 and mini 4. The iPod Touch is treated exactly the same as any other iOS device on the same chipset generation as far as receiving updates goes.
How is it false? I have not seen any updates for my apps for over 3-4 years because it requires an updated iOS beyond 9. I have tried to download some apps and it tells me I need iOS 10 or more recent. The browsers runs slow and are very sluggish and it's the same with the apps. I've deleted all but two apps and all I use the iPod Touch for is listening to music nowadays. Some apps require updated iOS and and some don't. Yes, I do own and still have the Gen 5 and this has been my experience so I don't why you chose to accuse me of making false statements.

I explained how it was false in my previous post. The iPT gen 5 was supported as long as the iPhone 4s, just launched one year later alongside the iPhone 5 (the same could be said of the iPad mini which launched a month later alongside the iPad 4). In all it got iOS 6-9, the iPhone got 5-9 sure, but I wouldn't call 4 years of support a bad support cycle. As mentioned, the iPad mini received the same number of iOS versions and the same length of support. As for the iPT6, launched in June 2015 - again, a few months ahead of the iPad mini 4 and has so far had iOS 8-12 - that happens to be the same as the iPhone 6. You called out that it didn't receive the same sort of support as the iPhone, I'm just pointing out you're not correct to say that. The laggy performance on iOS 9 is a feature of all A5 based devices on iOS 9, be it the iPhone 4s, iPad 2 or 3, or iPad mini, they're all just as poor, but more modern chipsets like the A8 run their later iOS versions much better. An A7 or A8 device on iOS 12 is nothing like an A5 on iOS 8 or 9.

Next generation iPod touch is going to be 4.7 inches, the size of an iPhone 6 and processor of the iPhone X. It will be marketed as a gaming device and will not be updated for another 3 years.

I hope they keep it it's current size and just update the internals.

I don't see Apple's reasoning behind this move.

My opinion.

The iPod Touch is used in many businesses and Apple needs to upgrade it so it will run IOS 13.

Since Apple needs to update it, they want it to appeal to as many as possible.

I had always hoped MFI controllers would take off more than they have. We have so much power in iPhones now, more than the Switch which can run AAA games like Doom. A Switch-lite experience with one of these is what I want them to push for and court developers for.

Interesting idea, but it's no Switch plus it's market will be really limited due to the mobile phone. Still should be grateful the iPod Touch may live on yet..
It's just a shame the billions of game for iOS are generally freemium rubbish, or premium freemium!

LOVED me some trainyard.

That was the first game I alllowed my son to play on an iOS device. He didn’t want anything to do with any other game for a long while.

(Tagging @pentidoes and @Gravydog316 too because they liked your post.)

Coincidentally, the developer of Trainyard, Matt Rix (forming Milkbag Games with Owen Goss), released a new game yesterday you might want to check out. I haven't tried it yet because I'm still considering which system I should get it for, but it's called FutureGrind. Looks a little like Rat on a Scooter but with time travel(?) and 3D graphics.

Yeah, but they killed the other iPods,
they want you to buy their iPhone that isn't selling :(
(& i can't afford)

They also have the same potential against home consoles. Now that they are a bit long in the teeth they probably have SoC advantage.

But there is no will, focus or whatever to tackle the gaming market. I have more hope on an headless expansible desktop Mac.
I completely agree and this pains me, to see apple going down the drain because they are more focused on some car project called "Titan"!!!
