Great!
I didn't know there was such a program, but now hopefully I can give my supercharged Macbook white the exterior it so desperately needs!

And, yes, some may call it a dinosaur.
Bad comparison; a T-rex would kick any current animals ass and probably Chuck Norris's as well.
With a 8GB mem & 128 GB SSD, my 2009 MBW is more then capable to do everything I need. :D

The first Apple product I ever got was a 2009 MacBook white for Christmas. I have owned several products since then, but it's still my most used machine. It's so reliable and just keeps humming along. I put in 8GB of RAM, a 256 GB SSD, and upgraded to Mountain Lion last year and it works as well as my 2012 Mac Mini or 2011 MB Air. The rubber has come unattached near the front so this will be a great replacement. Sounds great, thanks Apple.

Is this related to the clicking sound in my 2011 MacBook Pro, or is that something else?

Nope. That is probably related to your hard-drive : )
Go buy/save up for/wish for an SSD. May I recommend the Samsung 840 Pro.

Not only will your Mac become silent as a ninja. It will also become blistering fast.
The installation is both easy and fast. And the price compared to the performance boost you'll experience (and not to mention the lack of clicking) is really OK.

I kept the HDD and got a SSD instead of the superdrive.
It gives the same speed increase but more storage due to the 2 drives.
It means I still experience some clicking, but as I use the HDD only for data storage, the amount has decreased substantially!

Ah, that's cool then. I've been holding out for the next retina MacBook Pro's to decide on updating my current one with dual ssd+hdd or not anyway. I'll just start backing up a little more prudently in the mean time.

no i got 3
3? I should lend you a few.

My old MacBook was purchased just for e-mail, still fulfills that job faithfully today.

I've got a 2010 Mini that just does taxes. No fun trying to wrestle a MacPro out of the house if it's burning down.

When you need a dinosaur, you use a dinosaur.

can someone confirm if this is only for the clastic macbook, or macbook pro included?

I bought a used MB a year ago in December and used this to replace the bottom. Very easy to do and Apple does not want the old one back.

Even includes a screw driver and a new set of screws to do the change.

I hace a 2010 MB and got mine replaced.

people still use these dinosaurs

Yes. The only Macs I own are a 2008 black MB and a 2010 MB. Very happy with them. No reason to get a new one till these quit working.

What is a replacement kit? Surely people aren't doing this repair themselves? And they won't be swapping laptops?

They wouldn't be issuing a replacement kit if folks couldn't do it themselves.

And there's nothing wrong with the laptop so why would they swap it.

Does your MacBook Pro have a big piece of rubber on the bottom?

That is all this is about. The rubber piece on the bottom of the MacBook. Not other defects.

There are eight screws in the bottom to remove. The bottom then lifts right off. You place the new one on and use the new set of screws they provide you and tighten with the screw driver that is also included. Takes five minutes.

Got my replacement last week and it make a big difference :)

I doesn't wobble anymore and it looks........ WHITE!

its easy enough to keep it looking white. buy a pack of alcohol wipes from a drug store and use them on the bottom. it will clean up the majority of the grubbiness that accumulates down there

Wow, that looks terrible! But the new one looks great.

How did you like having that down there? I had an '06 MB and didn't have that but was considering upgrading last year.

I've got one of these from 2009, and since it was a hand me down, it had two hairline cracks in the hinge, there was a massive crack where the ethernet connecter was, the rubber was coming off and the trackpad was stuck due to grease and dirt getting underneath (I assume they ate?)
it is more likely that it has the "bulging battery" issue. The battery on some Macbooks and MBPs will swell until there is no room for the trackpad to "click".
You can buy replacement batteries off of Amazon, Ebay and a few places like OWC too. Or you can just enable "tap to click" in the trackpad settings.

In 2011, Apple announced a worldwide repair program for MacBooks with a defective bottom case, which caused the rubber surface to separate from the hard plastic casing.

The program originally stated that Apple would replace the bottom case of any affected MacBook for two years from the date of purchase, but the company recently extended the replacement period to four years from the original date of purchase.

Apple is offering several different repair options, which include visiting an Apple Retail Store, an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or ordering a replacement kit online.

What?! I went in to the Apple Store in Vancouver in March 2013 and they told me coverage was for only 2 years and it had been 3.5 years at the time (Purchased in Dec 2009). This sucks!!

So I should have been covered and they did not honor it. Now, of course it's 4.5 years so they are going to turn me away again. Do you know if there's a customer service department I can escalate this with? Thanks.

It wouldn't hurt to take a copy of the press release or whatever with you to an Apple Store and ask.

In 2013, when my AppleCare was about to expire, I took my MBP in because of some weird artifacts or visualizations on the screen (not really sure how to describe it). I said I think it's the GPU. They tested it, said everything was fine, but would make a note of it in case it gets worse later on. It hasn't, but I have this hope that if it does they'll take care of me.

Great. Now how about an extended repair program for 2011 MacBook Pros that suffer from Radeongate?
