In other words, Apple agrees to ship one unit per order to which the owner is eligible for education discount at a price TWD 19900.

If this is the case, then I have this to say: Thank you, Apple.

I thought about the changed price on the orders. Is it possible that it happened automatically? If the low price was not a sale but an error, and if the error was fixed in the store's database, is it possible that the change automatically propagated to the receipts? If so, then that would have been an honest mistake, not an arrogant act. But it would also indicate a weak spot in the design of the store --- the price on the bills should be copied, not referred to.

Well, let's hope it was all mistakes and that we will get the discount. I am sure my students will be extremely happy.

It's a sensible decision for them. They are not really taking a financial hit on these I imagine they have enough profit built in to the price. So at worst, they are probably introducing Mac OS X to some new customers with some marginal profit.

Edu Only

I'm in Taiwan and I didn't place an order because it was limited only to educational related field. I'm sure half the order isn't legit since most people that I know who ordered aren't students or educational institution.

Here in California, in retail stores there is a law that says items MUST be sold at the posted price. So if they make a mistake and move a decimal price and post a sign saying a 6-pack of beer is $.75 rather then $7.50, they are required to sell for $.75 and can't tell you at the cash register that the sign is in error. I've gotten a couple good deals that way. But almost always they quickly fix the sign or take it down. Many times the checkout clerk will say "but the computer says it's $7.50" that does not matter, get the manager and the sign and he will approve the deal or the store is subject to a fine. Looks like in Tiawan the law also applies to on-line sales. Here is is only for in-store.

I think the best thing for Apple to do is to sell at the posted price and fire the person who screwed up.
