first spring, then summer, now fall, I suppose xmas sales will be next...

if I at least knew I could plan... but I can't plan according to "maybe ..... "

I'm starting to accept the 'rumors' as fact and we might not see the next iMac before September or October. But I'm sticking to my guns, my G5 PowerMac is still going strong (knock on wood) so I can hold out a while longer, keep saving up the $$$ and get a better model with more extras.

Who knwo we all might get a nice surprise next week :)

I just hope they aren't busy soldering down the RAM. I'm half expecting it though.....
I hope you're joking, there is no practical reason for Apple to do this in a desktop, it is on done in the MBPr to save weight/space.

Interesting if it's true, but I'm starting to fear that Apple are moving away from desktops.
I doubt this will happen any time soon considering they are promised a new Mac Pro next year. Why would they go away from consumer desktops when there are people that still want/need them over laptops and not need or can't afford the Mac Pro.

Retina display/redesign/soldered ram... there has to be a reason why the new iMac has not been released yet  And I hope it's not because they don't care about desktops anymore

Apple doesn't give a **** about desktops anymore, its all focused on laptops/ipads/iphone these days, iMac/Mac Pro has clearly taken the back seat.

A Fall release will be bad - no chance to sell a desk top to college students, many people wont have the funds to buy a new Iphone, Ipad and Imac. So Apple will make the desktop death a self fullfilling prophecy when it doesnt sell as well as they would want. (the people waiting since spring will be gone - new PC or old IMAC)

Tom

The last iMac redesign, when the 27" model was introduced, was October 20th, 2009.

2012 iMac

They only say fall so that it's far enough away that you might be desperate enough to buy a current iMac ...

I hope that the 2012 iMac does come out in October, but I think there is a really good chance that July 25th will be the release date. More than anything else, I just can't see ML released without a corresponding hardware upgrade and the only possibility is the iMac. An OS upgrade with no hardware upgrade would be embarrassing for Apple.

Time may prove me wrong, but this close to ML, I simply can't buy the current iMac.

I just hope we don't just see a Mac Mini update next week like we got last year with Lion. Leaving the iMac 'outdated'.

It would confirm either major redesign for iMac, or its relegation to scrap heap. (in my completely non-insider opinion) I'd guess the thoughts about retina might be true...

Or enhanced Mac Mini plus Apple Display might be the replacement for iMacs.

I was considering a Mini but want the 27" screen like on the iMac. The better than HD ones are so expensive the one built into the iMac is a bargain.

But if they up the spec on the Mini and not the iMac it will be a tough choice.

It would make business sense to have an iMac refresh available before school days begin in early September.

So I would expect to see something no later than mid-August. Perhaps not a complete makeover, but at least a "specs bump" with Ivy Bridge and USB3 included.

Even if they can't come out with the iMac next week, at the very least I'd like some information of what to expect.. it's the lack of information that is driving me insane..
