You should try the likes of Gravity or Google Maps or the thousands of other cross platform apps.

Gravity is btw the best twitter (and Google Reader) application on any platform. I prefer it to Tweetie on my Mac even.

Google Maps on S60 is nice too (although I prefer Ovi Maps and its preloaded maps some of the time - hey, choice of free maps apps eh?) and we don't have to wait for Apple to update their version to get the latest Google features. v3.3 added syncing of favourites.

I'd add Nokia Messaging for Email http://email.nokia.com/ It's a good mobile email program (easily better than iPhone's email app) and Nokia's push email service is both FREE and quicker than even my own mail servers at pushing IMAP IDLE mail at my Mac. Usually my phone beeps before my Mac gets it's mail.

I'd also add the rock solid inbuilt SIP client but that's not really a fair fight v the iPhone is it. :D

Sure, they aren't as flashy but they just work.

No Apple spent time making a usable Touch UI.

Agreed. I said the same thing: "What they did do, was concentrate solely on a touch UI, , something others could not do because of having to support legacy, smaller phones."

WinMo and Symbian are still as clunky as ever.

Companies like HTC have made some really nice overlays for WinMo that are finger friendly, quite innovative, and pretty to see with their animations.

I would not be surprised to see Apple copy some of the ideas that HTC uses... and I hope they do.

Where did you get "3 times the industry rate"? That was not in the lawsuit I read.

What do you think Apple did that was new in handheld or touch UIs? I can't think of much beyond the rubberband edge effect. The double-tap and pinch zoom predate Apple, for example.

What they did do, was concentrate solely on a touch UI, something others could not do because of having to support legacy, smaller phones. Plus they did the wonderful Safari browser, which was the main key to making it popular IMO.

You're right that others are trying to surpass it, which is why they're having more difficulties. Just copying the simple iPhone UI would be easy and quick.

It says it in this article. In May of this year, Nokia demanded 3 times more than what they demanded last season. I can guess that last year Nokia wouldn't demand less than the industry rate hence why I said 3 times the industry rate.

always had a sneaking suspicion as to why Nokia phones never played nicely with macs... whereas every other brand does.

So basically, you admit that you're wrong ? You're just speculating and presenting the results as some kind of facts.

Look, no one elsewhere has said that Nokia asked for 3 times the industry rate, only that they asked for 3 times what they had asked previously. Since no one can qualify their previous offer (as details of current industry rate and their offer are unknown) then you can't go around claiming that they asked for 3 times the industry rate.
