Not just as a monitor, but as a keyboard and trackpad too! I am hoping they make a cheaper lighter laptop to go with a base station, with a new kind of wireless connection that resolves the latency issues. The goal is to free the laptop from the hot CPU, loud fan, and HDMI and usb cables, to make the laptop usable as a laptop, and unleash the CPU's full power.

but what's the point of a lighter laptop if you also are carrying around a Mac mini?

I thought you can do that by going into your purchased apps?
Yeah but hardly any of them are universal or comparable or even work properly, been a disappointing start so far for M1 iOS apps.

Plus most of the popular apps are nowhere to be seen.

To unleash maximum processing power from the CPU, and use laptop comfortably on your lap, without HDMI cables and usb cables and fan noise and heat. The CPU base station would only be slightly bigger than a dongle, depending on how much battery and ports, so the total weight of your bag wouldn't be much different.
