I'd like to see Sir Paul, register the .apple TLD, that would be fun.

Apple, Inc. (the computer company) has bought all the Apple related trademarks from Apple Corps (the record company). There are probably some other companies called "Apple" or with "Apple" in their name (I know of one), but Apple Corps could not register that TLD, and Paul McCartney as a private person couldn't either.

It's kinda surprising considering that they don't even have iPad.com. Then again, by looking up the WHOIS data, it looks like it was registered in 1997.

"The New iPad" Really???

The next iPad will be called the Newer iPad.

----------

and then... Newest iPad.... Latest iPad.... Brand New iPad... NewGen iPad... Another iPad.... Yet Another iPad... Different iPad... Great iPad... Greater iPad... Greatest iPad...

After Steve Apple people have really lost their mind. God Bless Apple.

This year it's the new iPad.
2013 - the new, new iPad
2014 - the really new iPad with free jumper cables
2015 - the super duper new, new, new iPad
2016 - the newest and bestest iPad ever (pink only)

Not sure if you're serious, but trademark law protects "confusingly similar" names. If I made a tablet and called it the "iPaad" I'd be infringing on Apple's trademark. "iPad 3" clearly infringes.

Domain name trademark disputes (for most TLDs, including .com) are settled via the UDRP, which allows domains to be transferred if they infringe on trademarks.

So would that include, for instance, http://ipad3newsblog.com/?

Should the Empire crush them, too?
