A bit off topic, but does anyone know any trick to make the AirPods Max volume go just a little higher then the maximum? Anything possibly buried deep in Accessibility or somewhere?
Sounds like you want to turn it up to 11?

Seriously, though, have you checked out the Headphone Safety setting? There's a "Reduce Loud Audio" setting there that I suppose could be clipping your max volume.

Personally only time I've ever felt like I needed to go higher than the maximum on my AirPods Max is when I use them with Apple TV, and have Reduce Loud Sounds set to off. I find they hit a lower ceiling in that case. Used with my iPhone or Mac, I rarely find I want to go much past maybe 60%.

Two pairs of AirPods Pro 2 in our home (1x USB C, 1x lightning) and haven’t had a problem to date with firmware updates. Overall a very good product from Apple albeit expensive.

Now we have to wait another 5 years to tell us exactly what changes were made in the firmware, instead of using a blank statement.

Apple regularly releases new firmware for the AirPods, AirPods Pro, and AirPods Max, but the company has historically provided limited information on how to initiate an update. That changed today, and Apple updated its AirPods firmware support page with more specific instructions.

Prior to today, here's what Apple said on the subject:

Apple still has that same information, but now it's accompanied by step-by-step instructions on how to force an update, including troubleshooting steps if your AirPods won't update.

This process was generally already known, but the specific steps for charging via a cable and the 30 minute+ wait time remove any ambiguity on how to get new firmware installed.

When trying to force an update to some brand new AirPod Pros for the hearing assistance support, (for a family member) after several attempts following these very same instructions.. finally gave up and called Apple.

We were told that you may have to put them in your ears , listen to something, then put them back in the case before your phone will show the updated version having been installed on the AirPods.

Sure ‘nuf. Put them in , played something from the Music app, and the phone finally recognizes that the update has happened.

Seems like there should be a manual update, with buttons and progress bars, and update complete notifications???

Would be a lot easier than this.

What I usually do if it's not updating is connect to iPhone with my AirPods, play a song for 30 seconds. Stop playback and put the headphones in the case and then connect them to a charger. Then wait 15 minutes. This works 100% of the time.

The amusing thing is that the MagSafe Battery Pack, if you plugged it into a Mac, would offer to update the firmware if needed.

Why this isn't the case for AirPods mystifies me.

This announcement can also be read as "We still suck, and we're not going to change it, but now we're being more transparent about it." COURAGE!!

And you do the hokey Pokey and you turn yourself around… That’s what it’s all about 🎉

Good to know about this. Have always updated without any issues. Anyway good to see a detailed explanation from Apple.

Annoying! I've lost count of the number of virgins I've sacrificed in the past as part of the recognised method for forcing AirPod updates, only to now find it wasn't even necessary.
