to update your download of 10.7 to 10.7.1 from the App Store, hold down Option and click on the 'Purchased' tab at the top.

you will then be able to re-download Lion and it will be the 10.7.1 version

i just did this on 3 of my machines.

Is it possible for those who already bought 10.7 to redownload the installation file as a 10.7.1 if they're already on 10.7.1?

I previously updated via Software update to 10.7.1 last week (and yes this was purchased through MAS not the GM build for DEVs) but my MAS showed 1 update available so I decided to click and see what would happen. It is now downloading a 3.75GB file!! So software updates sends a delta 17mb file and the MAS gives you the entire updated OSX!!! Strange... very strange.

Anyone test it to see if a burnt copy will boot/install on a new MacBook Air? Would be nice to have a proper install disk that does not involve the network.

yay, now I just need to wait on my reimbursement from the app store, so I can upgrade to Lion. I already upgraded on 10.6.8, got the update assistant, and the first major Lion Patches have been made, it's now safe to board

Hope every release of 10.7.x will be like this. Now I can creat that full DVD, and simply make a new one when a minor update comes out, so no need to use software update all the time.

It's the installer that's been updated. I don't think you can update your existing install of Lion via the MAS.

I will update my home made install usb drive to 10.7.1

Not strange at all. The "meat" of the installation file is a disk image, so they probably just replace that. If they were smart, they'd mount the disk image and delta update the contents, but...

Yeah... It's a complete OS ... 33 minutes to install.

A little off-topic but not really.

Do system updates also update the new built in recovery partition? If I am on 10.7.1 and reinstall from the recover partition will it install 10.7.1 or 10.7.0?

‘Finally’. Really?

How long has it been since 10.7.1 was released? Who, exactly, was holding their breath waiting for this epic milestone to be reached? Which is to say, the title seems a wee bit overly dramatic.

**** . . . Apple updates their apps?
Well of cause they do. How the **** this is news is beyond me?
Apple just update their Apps on the App Store like any other developer does. Kind of obvious really.

And I would assume the recovery partition downloads and installs the version of Lion what is on the App Store. The latest version.

So . . . with delta App Store Updates there's no real reason to keep Software update. Though the firmware and other updates would have to be a single file that you use to upgrade. You can't have them auto install like from Software update though.

Finally. Beleaguered. ;)

+1

Aren't you amazed how many of those Gruber finds?

I noticed Google decided to confront Lodsys on the patent thing and the headlines (after months) did not read "Google Finally Joins the Battle Against Lodsys". People don't cut Apple any slack. I think its because Apple's policy is complete silence until they have something to say -- the complete silence makes the press uneasy and so the overall feeling towards Apple is impatience.

I'd like to see OS X drop Software Update entirely in favour of App Store. It would make things a little messy for those with boxed versions of iLife, iWork, etc, but there's no reason to have two different paths for things like OS X or iTunes.

And what problem would be solved by doing this?
