I'm guessing you're a fan of kim?

I just think there should be consequences for actions, her father got fired, but she is gaining a lot of followers and a lot of views for her previously not-as-well-known Youtube channel. It would sicken me to know that even through all this, she gains a lot more 'attention' after this brief period.

Yeah...she gained a lot of attention from that video; however, she got a lot dislikes from her videos. His dad didn't seem to care as I watch the whole video again.

Yeah, regardless of what was deserved or not, what happened is unfortunate...

My guess is he was looking to leave Apple anyway and thought it was a good way to go. That or he didn’t realise his daughter was filming it, but it seems unlikely Apple would fire him if that were the case (I haven’t seen the original video).

I can’t see how anyone couldn’t understand the risk of abusing your privilege within a company as notoriously secretive and image-conscious as Apple.

Surprised that so many think this is a thing. The guy is in his early 50s, and spent his entire life to get to where he is. You don’t get jobs like this and a 13+ year run at Broadcom by setting yourself on fire. Going out this way is ensuring you never work again. He was careless - but to think this is some sort of rage quit? Maybe for a 20-something... not for a career man born in the 60s.

If one person was to blame, I think the daughter is the one. What she did put her father's career in jeopardy. She should have been smart enough not to do what she did.

Myself and others are perhaps more surprised that he would knowingly flaunt his privilege and not realise sacking was a possibility. That just seems exceptionally unlikely.

Dad broke the rule. Daughter just made sure he got fired.

Dad was using the iPhone X on the Apple campus? We've heard worse about how iPhone X was seen at restaurants, and friend's houses. Daughter posted the video?

Did you read the article? There were some employee only data exposed in the video. On top of the video of the unreleased product. There were a number of workplace rules broken in the process.

At the end of the day. The father was responsible.

Here's a full vlog video. From watching this, it gave me an impression that he didn't care. He knew...but he didn't care.

He talked about moving into the spaceship in December.
He saw her recording him and stated that he was going to use x to buy lunch.
He gave the phone to her to test it out.

She revealed the note app to him while being recorded.

I don't think this is a careless act. This might have been intentional from the start.

Note: just an impression that i got...

fun fact: 3:17 of the video. Did you see how big that camera was? the self pic mode? You gotta wonder why nobody called her out.

Im still not ruling out the work of a good marketing firm. Nowadays people are well aware of these manufactured leaks. The drama behind this adds an element of realism. Hell, id pitch the idea to a client of apples stature.

Dad let a non-authorized non-Apple employee use a pre-release device.

Furthermore, the device had Apple confidential data on it. To top it off, it was shown on YouTube. If Apple didn't let the father go, it basically sends the message that it's okay to break all rules related to confidentiality.

Big difference between a voluntary separation vs. a termination.

Try getting a job reference for the latter. It's definitely not a good way go.

I don't know if it's been mentioned before but, from The Verge-

"The video itself may have seemed like an innocent hands-on, but it did include footage of an iPhone X with special employee-only QR codes. A notes app was also shown on the iPhone X in the video, which appeared to include codenames of unreleased Apple products. Filming on Apple’s campus is strictly prohibited, so filming an unreleased iPhone X is a definite rule violation." (emphasis mine)

This wasn't just "I showed off my dad's iPhone X and now he's fired". If they just let it go because it was someone who had no idea what she was doing then next year when some employee let's his sibling see the iPhone 10.1 (Puma) and argues that, "hey, it was just my brother ok? How was he supposed to know not to blab about it on his Tumblr?" how could they lay down the hammer when they didn't in this earlier case?

You can't stay two to five years ahead of the competition if you've got a bunch of knot-heads that can't keep things under wraps. Loose lips sink ships.

I reviewed the video, audio off of course. The One QR code looks to be some inventory code, laser etched. However it is unintelligible. As far as the notes app, again, unintelligible text... All too blurry.

If he has stock in the company and has been there a long time, his stock is probably worth a few million. I'm sure he will be ok. Competitors would love to hire him.

It was a phone, under NDA that was issued to the dad. Regardless of how bratty, entitled or spoiled the child was, this is 100% on the father who had everything to lose and who certainly should have known better. He got what he deserved... file this under "Self-inflicted".
