Does that allow screen mirroring? I can’t work out if my tv has airplay or not, but I can mirror from the iPad to fire stick using a third party app on the stick
iOS/iPadOS 14.5 will allow airplay to your tv if your tv is new enough to support the newer version of AirPlay (AirPlay 2.0), though without the AW metrics overlay. If yoyr smart tv only supports the older AirPlay (1.0) then you still won’t be able to AirPlay the Fitness+ videos to the TV.

Do note that for it to work you have to start airplay from within the Fitness app (button is on the bottom right when the fluorescent yellow play button appears on your iphone or ipad screen as soon as your watch is detected and right before you start the workout), not from control center.

Then that’s the problem: it might just not support Airplay 2 (netflix and youtube are still AirPlay 1 streams, I can cast those to my 3rd gen Apple TV too -though netflix actually has disabled wireless AirPlay-). Check the tv documentation to be sure if that’s the case. That’s for wireless AirPlay. If you’re using an HDMI cable, then you’re out of luck unless you own one of the iPads with a USB-C port. AirPlay using Lightning to HDMI does NOT work with Fitness+ videos, and iOS/iPadOS 14.5 isn’t changing that.

Thx mate. i’ll try the peloton or fiit apps instead. Cheers

How did you get the additional three months?
I spoke to apple to complain my three months had disappeared. After a chat. They gave me the one month free. And the three months. Then last week, I had a notification in the watch app saying I was entitled to 3 months. He added it on

I just updated my phone to the latest 14.5 beta and watch to the 7.4 beta and airplay works for me on my 3rd generation Apple TV which I think is airplay 1. There are no workout metrics but the quality is good.
I think you have to update both the watch and phone as it only worked once I had updated the watch as well

3rd gen? that’s music to my ears. I own a 3rd gen too. And yes, the apple tv 3rd gen is indeed airplay 1 only. Has anyone tested using a lightning to hdmi dongle? I’d live to know if ios 14.5 makes any changes to that.

Just tested it out and it works with the hdmi lightning dongle, no metrics again though.

Updated but won’t airplay still. I get the countdown timer and then just audio.
i 100% won’t be using Apple fitness + even with 5 months free

I use the original apple hdmi connector with my iPhone and works... but I have the lastest iOS beta 14.5
usb-c to hdmi or lightning to hdmi? because usb-c to hdmi has always worked, but lightning to hdmi didn’t work before and some users say it does work now on iOS/iPadOS 14.5.

I installed and air play server app on my fire stick. Even after updating to 14.5, I can’t airplay to it. They’re limiting it to airplay 2. So I won’t be using fitness+ unfortunately

I am having trouble airplaying even to apple’s own 3rd gen apple tv. I though iOS 14.5 fixed this, but not. It did fix using lightning to HDMI, though. That now works. But not airplay.

I got some bad news. Airplay to 3rd gen apple tv still does NOT work on the final public version of iOS/iPadOS 14.5 and watchOS 7.4. Lightning to HDMI does work now, however, so I guess that’s what I’ll be using since I already have the dongle.

What dongle mate? Do you have a link? Looks like non official adaptors don’t even stream Netflix, so I guess I need the Apple dongle

thx

I have Apple’s own official lightning to HDMI dongle. Didn’t buy it just for this, I’ve had it for years.
