Some people just look for reasons to complain, especially when speaking about user options on the watch. How can something be intrusive and against the user's wishes, when it is ultimately up to the user whether he or she wants option x on?

If you don't care about the new walk feature, move on to something else meaningless in your life to complain about. The Apple Watch doesn't revolve around what any one person wants or expects all the time.

Some of these comments are things an adult would expect to hear from a kid in kindergarten or first grade.

The only thing I am sorry for is that this is another symptom of people’s inability to be in solitude, with their own thoughts, even in a natural scenario such as walking.

Not this functionality’s fault, but this won’t help in the long run. Also people have to realize - and I do know it’s difficult - that they should workout/walk not because of a voice, but because of themselves. Oh well.

Very good point. The problem you speak of is one that has been prevalent as long as I can remember and seems to be getting worse. It seems so many people can't stand the thought of being alone inside themselves. And for a very small percentage, I can understand there are probably horrors awaiting them in the silence.

When I go running, I prefer the silence or that of my surroundings, versus trying to distract myself with music or something else.

That’s nice, but I’m not gonna appreciate solitude and nature every single day for a walk. The trail kind of gets monotonous.

Which is why I listen to podcasts as a distraction. And, likewise, why Apple is working on this feature.

What even is the point of this mindset?

So, what, people who have no intrinsic motivation to work out shouldn’t even bother?

I am terribly lazy, if it wasn't for habit and running tracking apps (and a Garmin watch and an Excel sheet before the real high tech came) I would never run 100km a month - 30 at best 🤣

It's a cool idea. I don't know who Shawn Mendes is.
Another misogynist pretending to be a musician like Dre. His song "Treat you Better" is a good example of his views on women.

I lost any interest in the service when I saw them promoting him.

I do, yes. And all the other features can be disabled too. Problem is, if I disabled all the features that used to wind me up and constantly interrupt my day, it would just become a normal watch. And as a normal watch, it's not good. Each to their own of course, I just don't need my watch constantly tapping me with interruptions.
…then why’d you buy an Apple Watch in the first place?

It's getting dumber and more childish by the day. My watch tells me how to wash my hands, to breathe and now how to walk. I'm sorry but...
While I agree those are annoying features -

1. Not everyone knows how to wash their hands. Did you know pre-COVID?
2. Not everyone realizes the benefits of taking a minute or two every now and then to focus on relaxing your mind.
3. Not how to walk ... it's just stories.

Anyhow, just turn them off and be happy.

To be honest, the most interesting thing about fitness plus yet to me. Not worth the price tag though since i do have audible stacked to the max.

what? That’s not I said at all. Of course if a story, or music, or an app motivates you it’s much better than being sedentary. I have nothing against this new functionality in itself.
Ultimately it’s just like a podcast, so it’s not really new.

However, if one doesn’t find intrinsic motivation, they risk to fail in the long run or slow down their progress because sooner or later, the stories will get old. The podcasts will get boring. The music will not be enough to entertain.

You're paying Apple to tell you which podcast to listen to.
They've monetized going for a walk.

Yes ... they have. I wonder which podcast company source of content would NOT ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ?

Last I checked: whether currated or by algorhythm all are in this for the joy and the money, or just for the money.

It was the handwashing thing that finally made me realise 'this is getting a bit intrusive now', and made me sell my S4. Went back to a normal automatic watch and felt much better.
You...DO realize you can turn these features....OFF....right?

I must be one of the only ones that doesn't need to be reminded to workout.
Do people really need this much help to get started?

Its not just about getting started,
It's about maintaining a good practice to form a life-long habit,
its about kicking your arse when you feel low on energy, lack of motivation, feeling down, over stressed, upset, some underlying mental issues (like ADHD, or BDA etc that negative thoughts out of your control jump in EVEN when the positive concious thought is there fighting one another),

Just a gentle reminder to get you BACK into the good practices to form habits!

Example: I still need it even though I've worked out almost all my life - BUT with pandemic all my gains and accomplishments are LOST! I've been debating on getting a Watch again or upgrade my '16 SE to 12 mini (in a few weeks) - this just pushed me over the edge! (I don't use Fitness+ nor subscribed BUT the reminders I need).

Exactly.

Things like filling rings, getting monthly goals, limited edition challenges, etc. are about habit-building.

I find them annoying but I might be different than Most. 18 years in the gym personally. If I’m going to be taking care of myself I remember to do it without help but I understand the majority of people might need to be annoyed by their devices to tell them to do things.

And how consistently have you been for each and every year half year for those 18 four years very curious.

Very consistent really. It’s a big part of my life. If I take off time I tend to be more tired and aches and pains show up randomly. When I’m consistent (3-4 or 5) days a week I feel the best and have the most energy. I’m 39.

Gotta try these things haven't you. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it when I first got it but found I was using any of the smart features less and less and found even having notifications on my wrist too distracting by the end. As mentioned in the thread, I didn't want to be so 'connected' all the time and, lets be honest, if you're purely just using your AW as a normal watch, it's pretty poor (not to mention ugly!)

Before anyone starts getting angry, it's not an ugly smartwatch, but it's an ugly watch.
