Apple Fitness+, Apple's paid fitness subscription service, officially turned one year old this week. The service was announced in September 2020 and launched on December 14, 2020.

Fitness+ was initially only available to customers in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK, and the US, but last month Apple expanded the service to many more countries. Apple Fitness+ is centered around the Apple Watch, which tracks critical metrics during workouts and displays them alongside the workout on the iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV. New workouts are added every week.

There are currently 11 categories, including meditation, HIT (High-Intensity Training), yoga, core, strength, pilates, dance, cycling, treadmill, rowing, and mindful Cooldown. Each category includes its own set of trainers, with some types requiring equipment, such as dumbells, while others require no equipment at all. Depending on the category, workouts can be as short as 5 minutes long, with other ones being up to 45 minutes.

In October, Apple added new capabilities to Fitness+, including allowing friends and family to work out together using SharePlay. Since its launch, Apple has also introduced "Time to Walk," a new offering of Fitness+ which features audio stories from influential people that Apple Watch users can listen to with AirPods or other wireless headphones while walking.

In celebration of the service's one-year birthday, Fitness+ is offering a "Best of 2021" section within the Fitness app. Fitness+ is also celebrating the milestone on its Instagram. "Thank you for an incredible year. Here's to all that we've accomplished, and how far we've come together. Ready for Year 2? Let's Go!," the post reads.

I’m a huge fan. I use it to mix up and keep fresh everything but my bike workouts. I use my Peloton for that, along with their accessory work outs.

I have the 3-month trial from my Apple Watch. I like it so far, but only use treadmill and cycling.

But, I find that the offering is poor music wise. I end up replaying the same "Everything Rock" and some "Throwback Hits" trainings over and over again.

I can't stand Country, Hip Hop/Rap, Latest Hits. Maybe a song here and there, but for a 30 minute run or ride, no ****ing way.

That's too bad, I was considering going to the Apple One tier with it for all my family, even if it meant having to recreate my Spotify playlists.

We'll see how it gets garnished over time.

I’m surprised by how much I actually use this. It was a curiosity attempt of “hey, this is technically free so let’s give it a go” thinking I’d probably just forget about it after that… anyway, I’ve found yoga to be a great thing for me.

I do yoga, core and meditation exercises regularly, however, I would love to see half-guided or even free meditation exercises. Similar to what Headspace is offering.

I like it but hate it when it freezes. Thought it was my Wi-Fi in the garage but happens in the house too. Very irritating.

My favorites trainers r Josh for rowing n Kym for cycling.

I had it for a year trial. I was disappointed. I certainly wouldn't pay for it. They need to expand their offerings for people who are in shape. It was far too beginner oriented for me. I went as hard as possible on my own. Not for me.

I'm pleasantly surprised to see so many positive comments here, and am glad it seems to be succeeding. We jumped on this when it first came out (and bought watches over Black Friday), but towards the end of the 3 month trial we found ourselves not bothering. I liked the tech, but I couldn't get into the classes - it just felt too "cult-like" for me and, at the risk of sounding very non-PC, the vibe felt like it was trying way too hard to be inclusive. I half expect each class to start with an explanation of the trainer's pronouns.

That being said, we got a Peloton a couple of months ago and haven't looked back. Because Peloton isn't cult-like....right.....

I tried to get into this but couldn’t. Outdoor exercise is the way for me. I’m glad others find it useful but I feel silly dancing no alone in my bedroom.
And some people enjoy it. Also, sometimes outdoor workouts are difficult. Augustin in Texas, January in Colorado. Choice is fantastic!

I can totally get where you're coming from on your descriptions of the fitness plus workouts. The last line made me chuckle. I'm a user of both platforms. Just need to mix in a little crossfit and I will be a member of multiple cults~

You are probably not the target audience. And that's ok. There are workout programs out there for you too...Or you may be able to write your own better.
