monterey is the most terrible mac version to date. has a lot of problems and mistakes.
Monterey and iOS15 bugs galore really put into question about Apple's big talk about them controlling their own hardware/software and quality. It's as if the whole team were pre-occupied with something else, and ended up neglecting these main updates and now are scrambling for bug fixes.

Apple needs to do a Microsoft-style lifecycle policy, and put a LTSS channel for iOS and macOS for users who don't need fancy features, but something that just work. This yearly short cycle and dumping anything older than 2 years is detrimental in the long term. It was fun during the Longhorn era where Jobs kept making fun of the delayed Longhorn while releasing new macOS versions, but those days are over.

Way to go Apple. So to unbrick your bricked Macs, you need a second Mac. Quite an extreme nudge for consumers to buy a new Mac.

if it will brick your Mac whats the Recovery Partition for?

FWIW, I just updated my 2018 i3 8gb 128gb mini to Monterey. Works fine.
Not only does it work fine, they seem to have fixed the dual display issue. ? ?
I have an old Dell U2412m connected HDMI>DVI (all cable, no adapter) and a LG 27MP35 connected TB3>HDMI (cable no adapter).
So far this update has been a very encouraging walk in the park compared to the Big Sur transition.

Feels kind of lonely posting positively.

LOL...no I also see it as a positive update overall, but there are a few bugs that are very annoying. It is expected for some on version 1. Overall, it is a good version 1 out the gate. Yes, there will always be complaining. :)

LOL! For Intel Mac's. Trash!

With this software did it fixed the heating issues, LOL?
Let’s see how long it will take for Apple to brake the ARM versions, it’s not the first time they F‘UP Macs with updates. :D
Ohh they did it already, I just say USB-C.

And since their ARM‘s a new completely new territory, it’s more likely they will break it sooner than later.

is this really a "bug"?

or is it Apple's polite way of reminding people to upgrade to a Mac with M1 chip?
(a.k.a. time to contribute more money to the "Tim Cook & Apple Executives New 225-foot Yachts Fund")
Remember, apple didn’t ”slow down” older iPhones either ?

This is a bug that never should have made it past QA testing
They clearly don't have proper QA testing done anymore. All they care about is money, which is clearly indicated in the drop of quality control both in hardware and software over the past 3-4 years.

I have to keep remembering you have a "love/hate" relation with Apple! But, seriously, I really appreciate your elaborating on what goes (or should go) into testing OS software. Never having been there, for me it's an eye-opener.
Thanks! Regarding my love/hate relationship with Apple, I once mentioned to a saleswoman that I am in awe of her people skills and ability to sell things. She said, Sideshow, you're an engineer, your job is to find fault in everything, and fix it. I'm a sales person, my job is to find the good in everything, and sell it. That was an educational conversation for me. And explains why guys like me seem to be so negative on these forums. We are simply being engineers, and wanting to fix the faults. That said, I do realise that being negative all the time causes problems in my wider life, so am actually working hard at being more positive. A work in progress.

“. . . you're an engineer, your job is to find fault in everything, and fix it. I'm a sales person, my job is to find the good in everything, and sell it.”

A great distinction — probably applies to Apple employees. I feel for the engineers there if the sales force has entirely got the upper hand. Stressful.

Typical 
what a bunch of soulless CrOOKs!

I am trying to get their Mountain Lion to do ONE thing via the cloud,
or even using 1  app that might work for 5 minutes in an older macbook air
while I am trying i am just thinking how psychopathic soulless people work under premiere Cook.
Every post is a mirror. Sort of a bitch, isn’t it?

seems to me mosts post here users are complaining over  tactics
were they go out of their way to prevent software to run on older MacBooks etc,
while the new software does not perfectly work in these new devices.

why doesn't  forget and halt sabotaging their older products we own,
and concentrate on making tomorrows product work better?

Apple is becoming another Microsoft, dumbing down the OS(s) and forcing users to do what Apple thinks they SHOULD be doing. The M-series chips have tremendous potential, but the main reason I use a Mac is so I can do things the way that is best for me and my business. Innovating just for the sake of innovation is a dead end. Think Different!
