"Siri..."

"Siri, Remind me to renew SSL Certificate for Swscan.apple.com on May 23. Alert me two days before, and alert me a second time on the day before."

This isn't exactly related, but I've noticed quite a few people prefacing their use of Siri with, "Siri...". I know it still works when used that way, but I just wonder why some people do it. I use Siri at least 20 times a day and would find it extremely repetitive to always start with, "Siri...". And as far as I can tell from all of Apple's keynote demonstrations, TV ads, and website the name Siri is never used during it's activation.

Not a big thing, but I've just wondered about it since the 4S was released.

If they need someone to fill the position making sure those ssl certs are kept up to date, I'm available.

Edit: I'll relocate to Cali too, no problemo.

It's possible that whatever server allows the use of the backup key also has an expired certificate. It's not "phoning home", per se.

Haha, that does sound bit sinister - but I just meant that some kind of verification might not be occurring as needed. Though I'm guessing you should be able to that without an internet connection.

I guess I'll find out once they get the certificate renewed.

Apple needs to design an app where people can jot down a list of things they need to remember, with an option to add alerts when they become due. Could call it Reminders or something similar.

Yeah, the guy wearing the $4,000 suit is going to use an app called Reminders. COME ON!

Rumor has it that fixing this will be Dr. Dre's first assignment.

Siri is faithful so she carries out every command with a smile, even if you don't call her by name; but in her private moments she weeps.

This is what happens when you try to stream line and make IT lean. Engineers have too much on their plate and things like this happen.

The problem isn't Apple or Tim Cook. The problem is Engineers need a union to represent them as they are forced to work long hours and the work load is beyond what is reasonable.

It's a staffing problem.

That one's in Cook's basket. He runs the show and counts the beans.

Unreasonable work loads will result in errors that are avoidable with adequate staffing.

Happened to me too. Read a good tip on another site, just change your date to 22 May 2014 or earlier and the updates will work again.

Changing the date in your computer can royally screw stuff up. It's a no brainer to NOT do that.

Tim, time to double down on SSL renewals ;)

I laugh, though I have seen this happen quite a few time on major sites

Already fixed, it seems.

Ever notice how these always seem to expire on weekends? We maintain a few servers with certs too, and their expiration dates are often on weekends, and worse, one on a holiday. So renewing them when they're close to expiration is double-priority!

You do get plenty of notice to renew them.

I've never had to renew them on our sites, but can you not renew them in advance ?

When it comes to Apple, things like this might as well be a year. The media will be all over it.

And tomorrow it will all have been forgotten replaced by tomorrows new tech news. Its not really as big a deal as you are making it out to be.
