So this Friday we had a Christmas party. Long story short, I got drunk and woke up to a bent iPhone 6 with the screen cracked in the corner. I have apple care so I went to the store and surprisingly the genius gave me a brand new phone and told me she wouldn't use up any of my apple care replacements. She said the phone isn't that badly damaged that's why she's replacing it for me. Haha any idea if that's standard practice or did I just get an awesome genius. Either way I got a brand new phone in 5 minutes. Apple rules!

Apple has a history of delighting their customers. I'd also say OP that your good attitude probably helped. I see many posts of people complaining trying to play the "phone is defective" card when they bend/break it. It's no surprise Apple turns them away.

Lucky! I haven't had any broken devices but if I did, I'd bet that Apple would provide great customer service and fix my issue without a hitch.

Haha yeah, I guess that was it. When she asked me how I broke it I told her the truth because I was totally ready to just pay the deductible under apple care and get a new phone. She checked the phone, put the serial in her iPad thingy and when she came back with the new one she said 'I gotchu, don't worry'. I was like seriously? Do you think they have a record of the gazillion apple products I have bought over the years...anyways super impressed with Apple's Customer service. Btw I live in Ontario, Canada if anyone is curious.

Apple is very clever.

Selling millions at astronomical profits, they set themselves up to look good in the eyes of naïve customers.

It's easy to fool customers into thinking Apple is this warm generous company when one doesn't understand the math. The financial side.

Apple is laughing all the way to the bank, while I laugh at the massive gains I've made off of years trading Apple stock. :D

Try that in India. There is no genius bar here and 16GB model costs $900.

As opposed to most other companies doing the same thing as far as profits go, but in many cases without that type of customer service (if not the opposite of it)?

Apple charges premium prices for their products and has set up the expectation of premium support. In my opinion they deliver that premium support. It's no secret how much money they have in the bank. They are entitled to make whatever profit they can earn.

My last support experience was last week when my daughter's iPhone crashed and went into a boot-loop. I took it to a Genius and they couldn't reproduce the issue. They replaced the phone anyway on my word. It's those types of personal experiences that keep me coming back and adding to their profits.

So telling customer to get screwed would be your preferred choice.

Someone does something nice for someone else and your response is Apple is evil money grubbing forcing people to buy its overpriced products with mind altering advertising affecting millions of docile minded customers that can't help themselves?

Have you seen his post history? That's his modus operandi.

Hey it's India, what you expect. They keep calling me saying how my PC is sendinging them error messages. When I tell them I am using a Mac, they transfer me to Apple department and same guy tells me my Mac is sending them error messages. Then they want me to load some software that will help.........right. Call always ends same way, when I question their veracity, and the say F... You and hang up.

Nice one OP!

I think this is as much a lesson in being honest and nice when dealing with retail workers, especially during the holidays. My guess is that the Genius Bar is authorized to do that on a judgement call basis, and you were nice and didn't yell at them so they did you a solid. I'm sure they get a lot more bitchy people than nice ones this time of year, and I know when I worked retail I would go out of my way to discount things for nice people over the mean ones.
