What's encouraging to see is such offers being made without prompting. Yes, there's an element of 'if you don't ask you don't get', but generally speaking I do believe that Apple will take care of its customers adequately given the chance.

miniConvert is right. I went there with the intention of getting my laptop fixed before it ran out of warranty. I had no idea they would do that and I wouldn't recommend anyone taking their laptop in with hopes of getting the same treatment. I think that same visit with a different genius may have had different results.
