Personally, I prefer the battery icon. I rarely need to know exactly how much battery I have and just a general idea is fine. A percentage adds a little amount of clutter that I would rather not see all the time.

I’m fine for just the icon. The percentage triggers my OCD and I had been constantly charging my previous iPhones, not letting it drop below 90%. Now I don’t feel as bad when the battery drops to 50%. If I need any accurate reading, I can always pull down from the top right.

My thoughts too. I check my battery percentage much less now. It’s actually really nice as I’ve become less obsessed with my usage and I just use the phone.

I'm sympathetic to you guys having OCD, but I don't think that is a reason for the rest of us to not be able to get an accurate reading at a glance. Again, if there was an option, then we'd all be happy :-/

A choice is always good. I think I will enable it again if it is an option. :p

I would hate to see the percentage. Since the iPhone 6 I have never had to worry about battery life. I wish I could hide any battery indicator like I can on the watch.

That's thing we are all saying! We NEED a FREAKING option since everybody is different...

I understand what everybody is asking for and I don't necessarily disagree. But this is how this company is, they don't give options for the smallest little details when it comes to the iPhone and it's Apple's way or you simply accept the fact of what it is if you choose to use the iPhone.

I'm on the OCD side - and would rather have the image rather than a number.

...and I can guarantee you if we were offered a choice, people still wouldn't be happy - if we can choose the icon, can we not also choose which colour, and lets have the % to 0.1%, or allow it to go down/up in 5% increments, or can have it beep every drop in 10%, or have unicorn animoji in the widgets read the %..... As the old saying goes, you can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time. We are a demanding bunch.

opposite for me. I tend to try to charge this thing every chance I get. I hate not having it.
[doublepost=1512295599][/doublepost]From passed jailbreaks they can make it tapable and it could change from battery to percent. They've stole plenty of jailbreak tweaks over the years why not that?

I hope Apple going forward will just do away the battery life bar status wise and just do percentage. I think most folks would agree as that is all we really need to see.

Thoughts?

I basically agree, but I think a toggle (graphic or numerical) would be nice and no, I do not think that this is "too much detail" in the OS.

It seems it's a split, but we all agree that having the option to toggle it would be best. Too bad Apple is not about giving their users options; after all, Apple spends billions on R&D to make the best and tough (such as taking away full time battery percentage ;)) choices for their users, and we certainly paid for that privilege of not having that option :p

Same here. I can’t stand to see the percentage. It makes me want to charge my phone much more often than I really need to.

Since I have an Apple Watch it creates a battery widget on my widget screen which I can just view it from there. I don’t need to have another one showing on screen all the time. In fact, with previous models I have it turned off.

Damn you charge every time it hits 90 percent??

Things I prefer as numbers rather than an analog bar chart:
  • Battery charge.
  • Signal strength.
  • Vehicle speed.
Things I prefer as analog bar charts:
  • Trends over time.
  • Something I want to know the rate of change of.
IMO. YMMV.
