When I look at the photo, I see a darker area on the right, but I don't see a yellow cast. But different people have different thresholds of color perception. This is even more pronounced in men because men are more susceptible to different kinds of color blindness.

Anyway, I agree, if you've gone through more than one return, maybe it is time to move on. Apple devices are not perfect and even if you wait, I doubt they will get much better. There will always be subtle differences in screens, and the only perfect screen I've seen is the one in my ipad air ;). Just kidding, mine has a speck of dust. I live with it and the slight shading differences that appear as I hold the screen off-axis.

My opinion is that getting a perfect screen is unlikely. Try another tablet and let us know if you find their screens better.

The yellowing is irrelevant in this case. The camera's white balance is likely off. The obvious point is the difference in brightness which indicates the color shift. There are a lot of variables between what you see in the pic vs what your real eyes would see. In person, its night and day yellow and blue.

I already have said that I have given up and am getting a MBA instead.

I already have said I tried the Nexus 7 which had a much more uniform screen.

I have given up on the iAir for now.

fanboy is a term for simpletons.
brand loyalty is for suckers. why would anyone claim they don't see anything?

i've got an iPad sitting unopened in a box and i would really like to know if this is a real issue or not. based on the number of people making these posts my assumption is that they can't all be "making it up" but I really and truly can not see any difference in the white behind "google" and on the right side of the page.

If you really can't see it, then my comment wasn't directed at you. :) My comment is for people who see the problem, but intentionally say there is nothing wrong with it, or prematurely say it after giving it a cursory glance.

Some people don't have high enough resolution monitors, and some peoples' vision isn't acute enough. So I guess it can be a legitimate problem of not being able to see it.

Most ipad's have a bookspine effect wherein the left edge of the screen has a dark shadow. I've seen this on 2 ipad airs I've owned, and one rmini ipad at the top of the screen. My newest ipad air has it on the left, but one inch right of the left edge.

Many ipads also have this problem accompanied by a yellow gradient, shifting from yellower on the left edge, to cooler towards the right.

OP's ipad is unique in that it looks like it is cool on the left, and has a hotspot of "warm" or "yellow" right where it says Nexus TV. It seems more prominent at the top, and gradually fades down to the cooler color at the bottom (although still not as cool as the left side). First time I have seen one like that.

I would say if you have an ipad air, and can't see anything, just enjoy it. I would pay money to not be able to see these real problems. Because of my profession, I've been trained to pick up on tiny details, and I cannot unwire that trait from my brain.

I don't think this will affect anything else (i.e. I don't think the screen will die later because of this) so it is really one of those things where it is better not to look.

I forgot to mention that it was upside down! So, it actually does go from cool on the right to warm on the left. So, in regular portrait orientation the bottom left indeed is much warmer than the top right of the screen.

I agree it is definitely better if you don't notice these things then you will never see them. It's just nearly unacceptable when reading after you do notice it.
