Anyone who thinks Apple is removing the 3.5mm jack from the iPhone7 is nuts. Apple isn't the kind of company that would pass out thousands of presents that they know are going to be obsolete in a few months.

That would almost be like Apple continuing to sell an outdated product like an iPad 2 for years after it was well behind the times... ;)

Before people attack this. Please note that Apple has 115,000 employees as if Mid 2015. That's an $11,500,000 in company gift value. Ask yourself if the company you work for doers this or has something of the same value based on quantity.

I remember working for a company years ago that had probably 100 employees. We got $5 gift cards for Christmas. At the end of the day a gift is just that, a gift. Be thankful for what you receive.

Yes, is good way to get rid of junk they cant sell via retail.

They could have done what any other company would have done and sold it at a reduced price and/or binned it.

You must remember that no company is obligated to provide a Christmas 'extra' whether it be a monetary bonus or a gift. You must also remember that Apple is a BUSINESS - they receive nothing in return for providing these gifts to their employees.

Bet they get paid more than Apple retail ;)

You could always give up your job, join Apple for some free Beats! :)
Yes, because the work they do is more important than what a retail sales associate does. :)

That would actually be the very reason to do that exact thing... That's how you get rid of the stock and turn it into a tax right off.

A couple of years ago my company gave out paperweights as gifts. Now THAT was a worthless gift.

Companies can get one thing in return for giving employees a bonus....HAPPY EMPLOYEES. Of course they're not required to give out bonuses. But considering most US companies give very little sick time/vacation time to begin with, I don't think its bizarre for people to expect a bonus of some sort. Why must everyone be overworked, miserable and not able to take time off if they need to in this country? People constantly come into offices sick, coughing, hacking up a lung....all becaus they don't have any sick time. This in turn gets more people sick causing an even greater issue (except for the medical industry). This all reminds me of that disgusting cadillac commercial a couple years ago about how "We're Americans and we work long hours and never stop". Most people work for the "man" their entire lives. Giving a little back to people doesn't hurt.....in fact its supposed to be the more giving time of the season......but I guess that doesn't count for corporations does it??????

Considering apple has literally a quarter TRILLION in the bank......$11.5 million is a pimple on that buttload of cash.

I swear Apple could give every employee a top of the line 15" rMBP and people would still complain that Apple was being cheap. Btw, in 2007 when Apple gave every employee an iPhone they had roughly 32,000 employees. As of Apple's most recent 10-K filing they had 110,000 employees.

Considering apple has literally a quarter TRILLION in the bank......$11.5 million is a pimple on that buttload of cash.

Why do employees (especially non-retail) need a Christmas gift? Shouldn't their work be valued via merit increases, bonuses and stock options?

urBeats, WTF?!?? Least a Power Beats Wireless could've been nice. EarPods >urBeats. If Apple gave customers free Studios with a purchase of a Mac, why not employees get a better set of ****ing headphones.

Most companies I've worked at give out a holiday bonus check that's equal to 1-2% of what they paid me over the course of the year.

I definitely prefer that to getting earbuds. Even when I worked at a grocery store and my holiday bonus was just a $50 check, that was better than these earbuds, even if the earbuds retail for $100.

Not sure what your point is here. I agree that it is nice of Apple to do this and it's good on them.

Again, I will reiterate - Apple is a BUSINESS that has no obligation to provide any sort of Christmas 'extra'. This is the same for any company regardless of it's size. Apple has provided it's employees with a gift which indeed does keep employees happy but don't be fooled - nobody has a right to a Christmas bonus of any sort unless contractually stated.

Maybe you should voice your concerns to your local human rights organisation.

no Christmas bonuses?

at the hospital my mother works at they always have a Christmas party and everyone gets to pick a number to enter the room one by one. there's a big table with stuff to pick one item from. my mum got two iPhones, two ipad and a laptop over the years.

Add unzipping and make the room dark and this has the beginnings of a workplace legend.

LOL! Retail Value! More like the original price...Nevermind...I know it's the thought that counts. Apple gift card would have been better just a suggestion. :D
For tax calculations in the US, they have to use retail value.

Microsoft does the same thing for people that participate in their user surveys. If you get a copy of Office, they put $349 in your account of "stuff gotten". When it goes over $600, you get a 1099.

The funny thing is that if you get the "Microsoft Store $150 to buy stuff," it doesn't count towards that $600, so it works out well. I pay $150 for $1000 of stuff (Microsoft Server, and several mice/keyboards) and I'm not taxed, which saves me about $200.

I think the point was, "Corporations are evil and cause people harm"

I think that 4% (speaking of the US, not sure of UK numbers) of the world's population outputting 25% of the world's economy needs to be emulated, not castigated.
