my back account says that I have paid 80 euros to Apple, and the iOS or Mac iCloud storage plan say that on 30 sept 2013 I will be charger 80 euros, so?

So you shouldn't have been charged. Contact Apple then. Be a little proactive.

Granted if iCloud was as versatile or integrated like dropbox it would be better.
I like the way iCloud performs backups without any effort so In the event you lose or break your phone its practically a non-issue. However, it's still pretty limited when compared to other products

I also think they should give you an equal amount of storage with the purchase of iPhone/iPad. 64 GB with the purchase of a 64 GB product.

Remember, it was reported that apple tried to buy Dropbox at one time.

I will, however the system has handled my subscription correctly: I paid on the 28th, so my subscription will end on September, 28 2013. Apple is prolonging it till September 30th 2013.

We back up 3 iPhones, an iPod touch and two iPads to iCloud and even with management applied, were using close to 25GB. When i got the expiration notice and several close to using up the total notices, i upgraded to the 50GB for $100. I wonder if they will give me a $50 credit :)

When you think about it iCloud is pretty versatile. In addition to providing exact backups of mobile devices, it acts as storage for a lot of apps. Agreed if you are wanting the folder thing and need that sort of access, its probably going to frustrate you. I have a dropbox account and like it as well.

I'm not saying people shouldn't be allowed to have an extension

i'm just wondering why Apple chose another year to extent the offer....

This gives an reason for Apple to say "Former Mobile ME customers will always be happy, as they'll never be downgraded as the offer will never end"

This is my feeling, as APple is already on its way there...

Whats to stop Apple not extending this again at the end of the year ?

Same here

I am confused. I am a former MM customer, going back through the .mac days, and I only got the default 5GB storage.

When I rolled my MM account over to iCloud, I only got the 5GB and nothing more.

Meh. I don't use it anyway, so I guess it's a moot point.....

MD

I am in exactly the same boat. I wonder how they chose who got the free, extra storage? Just curious...

Maybe if you allowed MobileMe to expire and automatically got rolled over into iCloud instead of proactively moving to iCloud yourself, like we did.

Interesting...

If Apple is able to backup my 64 GB iPhone with only 15 GB, and back it up completely, obviously Apple is being extremely efficient with space.

Think about it, if 5 million people own the app angry birds, Apple doesn't need to keep 5 million copies on their server. Apple only needs a list of the apps and songs you have in your phone and then a very small data file to show where you have them and things like top scores and accomplishments. In this way, Apple is able to completely restore your iPhone in the event of data loss by using this method, and do it for some people with less than 5GB of space.

Those that are griping about a free gift of 25 GB don't realize what a blessing this is. I had just cut down my backup from 16 gig 14 gigs to save myself $20 in the coming year, but now I can have my iPhone completely restored with a 16 GB backup, and I save myself $40.

And for those that are wondering why Apple is doing this, obviously they screwed up when they gave MobileMe users an extension through 2050, so in this way they give these people a free year of service, and come out the winners in the PR department.

Well - the main thing I think I'd use lots of storage space for is photos and videos. That's the data on my phone that cannot be replaced.

Anything else - your storage space for apps and itunes purchases is actually "unlimited". The 5GB limit applies only to personal data. In-app data, and photos. Since in-app data is usually very small, it's mostly photos and videos.

Wow, just how ungrateful can people be?! Apple give something away for free and the first thing we see are ungrateful ****s complaining. Get a life!

Kudos to apple. Saved me a few £ this year.

why are they doing this?

They are trying to prevent pissed off people from leaving what was a good service, that has been neutered so bad that I can't even use it to share files anymore. iDisk was so much better than iCloud. It is really clear to me now why they wanted to buy DropBox. I have been a paying customer for 10 years. So this is not just some rant. I went through the last transition from .mac to mobileme. That was not too bad as most of the functionality, while it changed was left in tack. This time not so much. And to make matters worse, they can't even figure out how to migrate your data to the new service. So at the beginning of the summer I spent one or two nights a week making sure I had copies of all my data that used to be stored on iDisk.
The other rub, is I used to have a consistent web address for picture sharing, document sharing, and a personal website. All is gone. I know I could just go an purchase a domain and manage the site or use one of the free services like flickr but none are all in one place. Google drive is close, but is not as good, MS skydrive is close too and for some things better than google but they all seem to be missing something.
Not to keep going but the last thing that really seems to put me personally off is the web interface, that turned useful apps into cheesy, 1998 style, skinned crap. NOTE to Apple: Waisting screen space with a fake leather flap is not good design!!!!
Also is there a reason that calendars can not work on anything but lion or windows 7? This used to be easy to set up. And would you know that I have one machine that still needs to use SL, but iCloud calendars don't work. Google still sync no problem. Any help from Apple? Nope, just upgrade....
But I digress, iCloud is really a beta product. Worse in most respects to what mobileme was during the early transition from .mac.

Does anyone know the probability of Apple transferring this to a different account?

When I setup my first iPhone some years ago, I used my GMail email address as my primary Apple ID for the app store. Later, I decided to try MobileMe and at the time I was forced to create a whole new email address as my identifier for that service.

Fast forward to iCloud that allows me to use my Apple ID's email address. At first I was still juggling my @me.com address with the rest of them, but I really never used it for anything so I've more-or-less abandoned it in favor of simplification so that all my major services are under my @gmail.com address.

Do you think Apple will transfer my 25GB of storage from my @me.com to my @gmail.com Apple IDs since I own both of them?

Nevermind. I found this on the support page:

Can I transfer my complimentary storage upgrade to another account?
Your complimentary storage upgrade is not transferable. You can use it only with the iCloud account that you originally moved from MobileMe.

Blah. Oh well. I made the switch even when I had the 25GB because I really wasn't using it for anything. Without iWeb, iDisk, and Mobile Gallery the extra space can really only be used for iCloud backups.

the 25gb is pretty worthless to me without iDisk access. Im currently using .02GB and have 24.98 free

Exactly!

Apple sold me on iDisk and then took it away. iCloud you can't store stuff outside the Apple Apps (iWorks, iPhoto) smh

Uh...what? If you were a MobileMe member, you would have received an email in the last week or so advising you to make sure that your iCloud subscription was not downgraded to the 5GB free version.

Clearly, that's why the person you're replying to signed up for a paid plan. As did I (I opted for the cheaper 10GB of additional storage). Now, we're all getting our 20GB (ex MobileMe) storage extended, so have not been charged.

Hope that answers your bizarrely aggressive question. Anything else you'd like to know?

Oh that sucks. I never got that email. Sorry mate.

They are sort of...

Apple is now starting to load everyones new iClould email (check your Apple ID) you can use this as an alternative apple ID but it associates older emails. For example my new iclould has my new iclould, .mac and mobile me address all under one now! You can also add other emails used to this account as long as you can access and verify the email address.

How do you do this?

I totally agree.

The base limit should not be 5GB. It should be at the least 5GB per device.

The only reason I think Apple is not doing so is because they are millions and millions of iOS/OS X users and more users adding every day. Giving 5 GB extra to say — only 10 Million users will result — 47 PB which is HUGE!

I think — give it one more year, Apple will probably find some solution to this.

The other option is to only give 5GB for combined iCloud document sharing, but give more storage for iOS backups. Yes this could be huge amounts, but for most people it's not going to be a big deal. This would/could be a big deal for people with an iPad as their only computing device.
