Gaudy is as gaudy does.

Silver and steel are always fashionable. Gold waxes and wanes.

And that glove he has on. Designer maybe. But what some people call fashion, the rest of us just know is gaud awful tacky.

I thought that was a special box or something. Then I realized it was a glove. That's terrible. How is that fashion?

Wonder how many moaning celebrities will be desperately begging Apple to let them be a member of the exclusive 'One-off Club' to satisfy their ego?

Why make Gold watches just to give them away to rich people! Lol, they should get them to buy them instead! Come on, Apple! I know this is just a few celebrities, but get it together!

When I first saw this picture in my RSS reader, I thought it was looking down on the back of a small dog wearing a fancy jacket and an Apple Watch around its waist.

The watch pairs nicely with the webbed gloves and ambiguously striped coat, don't you think? :p
And fishnet stockings (Katy Perry). And Santa Claus red track suits (Drake). And pink plastic jelly bracelets (Pharrell). And of course retro 80's spiked leather gloves (rock it Nilay)

He is the legendary fashion designer who this week icily declared: 'I have no family.' Multi-millionaire Karl Lagerfeld said that he saw his entourage of male models as his real 'family' - and that although he had a sister in the United States, he suggested they had no relationship.

Poor Fella. With all those "Multi-Millions" why doesn't he adopt some kids and then he would have a family. And be giving a new life to kids who weren't wanted in the first place.

Must be too selfish or he'd have thought of that on his own.

Snap! (Almost...)

I don't really like it, but that's just me. If money was no object, I still wouldn't actually want to wear the Edition (unless they made a platinum/white gold version). I'd go for the SS link bracelet - think that looks the nicest.

Utility in question? Did people say the same about Bluetooth headsets? I think the utility of this watch is absolutely, unmistakably obvious to anyone that actually travels, sits in meetings, goes fishing, plays an instrument, etc. You get a ding on your phone, you glance at your watch. You can't hear your phone? Your wrist just vibrated. Yes, a phone can vibrate but it's not as jarring as your wrist, and can easily go unnoticed.

You say sales will be disappoint as if you actually really know this. You don't, you're speculating, and you have probably less credentials than even the worst analyst.

Purely speculation, I agree, and I'm not saying otherwise. No one can predict the future, nor the markets, which are random. Anyone who says otherwise is lying..

But that doesn't mean I can't have an opinion on the matter.. And thus far, none of the friends in my inner circle are excited for this product, or plan on purchasing one. Perhaps we are not the target market, but I'm assuming Apple is banking on some in the 25-35 working professional demographic to actually buy the watch. But I don't see it. Maybe strictly for fitness purposes? A few might. But mainstream? Wearing them in the office? I don't see that, do you?

And I don't think the fact that it vibrates on the wrist changes anything. Our phones have vibrated the last 10 years, and everything has been just fine. In fact, the number of times were my phone vibrated and I missed it is very low. Very very low. It's happened, but not very often.. Certainly not enough to to warrant buying a completely new device, and strapping it to my wrist for the world to see. There is a reason so many people don't wear watches anymore. They have become almost unnecessary. Not even discussing the social angle, how the rest of society will view wearing a smart watch, I just don't see enough here that is able to overcome so many obstacles. Obviously you disagree, which is fine. We"ll actually have an answer though eventually on all of this, in time.

Annoyed

Is it just me or is anyone else incredibly annoyed that Apple doesn't have the supply to fulfill all pre-orders yet they still manage to keep giving away models to celebrities? I understand it's for marketing purposes, but these people didn't pay Apple a dime, and are getting watches they didn't buy before those of us who really want the item, and got up early to pre-order....that seems ridiculous.

I know first-world problems, but it's just irritating.

That looks Horrid!

Sorry Apple that's Soooooooooooooo tacky and cheap looking :(

The next one has to be a home run, because I have a feeling this one is not the next "thing." They will sell, at least in the beginning, because all Apple products do.. But sales will still be disappointing.

Why the need for home runs? What exactly will happen to Apple if they don't have a new home run product? They have had strong (though not home run) products for the last 7 years, and they've been growing their user base and profits the entire time.

I hope the Apple Watch and whatever is next (updated Apple TV announced at WWDC?) is a home run, but I'm not betting on it. Most likely it will be like the iPad, which I don't consider a home run for Apple, but would have been a home run for ANY other company.

Anyone else find it odd, by the way, that a company whose motto seemed to be to "think different," which included an advertisement containing the likes of Albert Einstein and Bob Dylan is now releasing a product in a way that is entirely symmetrical with mainstream commercialism so prevelant these days? Overpriced designer fashion houses? Vogue magazine? Gold watches, iPhones, MacBooks? All symbols of the "elite."

The fact that the mainstream has taken to Apple products doesn't change Apple's "different" approach to making those products. If you compare how they research, design, and create products to that of Samsung, Microsoft, Google, HP, etc., they are very very different. Yes, they make a ton of money on their products these days, but it's because people are willing to pay for the higher quality of the products. (Cue the folks who will say there is no difference in quality between Apple and others.)

someone should show Nilay Patel that glove - it would go nicely with his studded cuff.
