After "Sea Lion", when they said it was "Mavericks" I thought sure it was yet another joke. But they were actually serious. Yes the name really is that bad, "Sea Lion" is actually way better. :)

Perhaps 1% of the American public knows that Mavericks is some surf spot in California. I lived for years in the Bay Area and never heard of Mavericks.

Me too, 'Mavericks' sounds crap. At least lose the 's' - 'Maverick' without an 's' on the end sounds better. In the same way as 'LEGO' should be pronounced without an 's' on the end (a personal bug-bear of mine). I've never understood the Yanks' obsession with mis-placed S's in words.

Tabbed finder browsing? It's about time! I've been wanting it for years!
When do we get a tabbed iTunes??

Look - everyone do this

go to Apple site, use 'contact us'
Flood with requests to call it Sea Lion
Do it now!

Instead of honoring large cats, they will start honoring popular well known established locations within California, to honor California as a whole... Putting them on the World map more than they already are. Also, its a great way to bring attention to California and learn more about it. I think its genius.

I know about the Golden Gate Bridge, Redwood trees, Alcatraz Island;
heck, I lived in LA for five years. But I never heard of 'Mavericks' other
than it's a bunch of wild horses. Or a parking lot full of one of the
worst cars Ford ever made.
Because I'm not a surfer or do I give two figs for the surf culture other
than as something I can admire from afar or as something held at bay
at the end of a cattle prod.
Why would they delude themselves to this extent? Likely there are
life long Californians steeped in these traditions who have never heard
of some surf location.
They could call the next version 'Mitchell Theater' or 'The Castro'
More people know those California icons than they know 'Mavericks'...

That Don Fernspaghetti comes across as someone who doesn't
realize that his subordinates only laugh at his jokes because he's
the boss.

Well gang, I think we should call it Mavericks
sure sure boss, great idea

It's in the seed note.

As I posted before in the other thread:

Developer Preview System Requirements:

The OS X v10.9 Developer Preview supports the following Macs:
- iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
- MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)

- MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
- Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
- Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
- Xserve (Early 2009)

Sweet! Thanks! :)

Installed on a 2010 white unibody macbook, upgraded with a SSD and 8GB ram. Though ML was fine until I tried this! WOW. So smooth, responsive and the little tweaks here and there just give a huge level of polish to the system.
Still installing everything and waiting for spotlight and mail to settle down before running on battery to see what difference there is (if any).

iWork running OK for me - had heard reports it wasn't working, as is CS6 (but will be getting into proper work shortly so we'll see)

Going to get the extra monitor setup too to try those features out.

Also - Very 'complete' for a developer preview... Should be a smooth process this time (hopefully)

I agree, I'm also quite disappointed with the name.
Who honestly cares about some stupid beach in California??
God I hope they change it before the release.
There's no way in hell Steve would have chosen that name...
God is in the details as Mies (van der rohe) once said.

Regardless of how good this OS will be, it's the little details....
Go back and re-think this Apple, it's a mistake.

I'm just curious if Fusion works properly on it. I use it regularly and it wasn't working until late in the ML beta process.

Looking forward to this update.

Love the name BTW. Beautiful sounding and opens up a new path for the naming scheme. Plus, all the secondary meanings are so applicable to Apple.

I'm surprised how many people dislike the name. They could have named it after sharks and people would bi***. Or after planets/moons and people would b****. There was never anything special about big cats anyway.
