My paid developer account expired earlier this year, but I logged on earlier and there was a button for a Server redemption code, which worked! Thanks Apple!

Don't know if it's because it was a paid developer account that reverted to free or if a free dev account would work too...

Edit
Tried my other non developer apple ID to sign into dev centre and it isn't offered. Must be a glitch.

Any benefit to having server on a laptop?

Thanks for this information. I also have an expired iOS dev account, but saw the redeem code and it worked - downloading now. Probably only works with former paid dev accounts.

The bots continuously scan for changes in the source code repository. Whenever you or another developer working on your project commits a change, the bots notice and kick off a build. The code is compiled and any automated tests are run and any problems are reported to the developers.

Thanks! I got it now.

Apple is on a roll this year, more free stuff. :)

It's generous that Apple is giving away quite a bit of free software. Everyone is happy with free software…. EXCEPT for the AAPL investors (who are only in it for the profit and do not necessarily care about the concerns of average Apple customers). The investors see it as Apple giving away free stuff, which is a loss of potential revenue. It's a very capitalistic outlook. :D

One thing I liked about the Jobs era was that SJ never listened to the investors.

You are talking about exceedingly stupid investors.

This free copy of OS X server is given to iOS app developers because it is needed to support a major strategic shift to make iOS app developers produce higher quality software in shorter time. This software is what makes iOS devices valuable to customers. This move will give a huge ROI.

The exceedingly stupid investors would probably also suggest to throw out all developers and engineers at Apple and replace them with chimpanzees who are paid in peanuts. This will mean a huge saving in salaries and huge profit increase.

Developers consistently say that the great developer tools are one of the reasons they like to develop for iOS as their primary platform.

Apple want to make sure that remains the case. That's why they introduced Xcode CI in the first place; making it free for paid developers just increases the attractiveness of the platform for developers.
