I personally love using Twitter. I reallly hope that it stays around regardless of who buys it.
Oh it will, it's going nowhere.

Personally I like how simple it is. I wish there were better ways for dealing with trolls and, what do they identify themselves as now... ********ers? Blocking is good but they can still set their followers on you.

Who in their right mind would buy Twitter; just have a fireplace installed if you like burning cash!

But the problem is that Twitter Inc. itself prefers to sell out…. rather than wanting to remain indie.

what happens when companies are founded or run to be fixer uppers for sale. Latter tends to happen after IPO goes into effect and random strangers have a say on your company, the assembled conclave of the uber rich people pulling your strings in the background.

Problem is....they didn't fix it up enough. Best it got was the hashtag meme going imo. #this and #that.....Its not offering any tech value like say google's informatics backend research and such.

2nd problem is in this arena all the companies share the same users. Read the bit one is buying the user base with companies like this from a poster and its a very valid point. Issue is social media is heavily cross contaminated. That twitter user will be on facebook and others.

What does a company webmaster or marketing team do to get the message out? Puts stuff on the social networks. They like and use facebook and don't have a twitter account? By the time the project done they will have a twitter account or 2 going as well. So with twitter you are not getting the user exclusively.

So with no advanced tech to own and now use at will no costs and promiscuous user base (for lack of better wording, they get around the social media scene as it were) there is just not much value here. they know this. Why they want the sale most likely.

It's basically a giant social media public posting board that gives each user their own forum. It could easily be copied by some 5-cent Chinese company. Maybe it already has.
I think WeChat is the equivalent. Most people I know in Beijing have heard of FB but very view know about Twitter. WeChat is the king in China lol

Support him or not, Trump seems to love Twitter, and just can't manage to keep from using it to embarrass himself on a daily basis.

Anybody have any better reasons why it should go the way of the dodo? I bet his entire campaign staff wishes it didn't exist.

Twitter is (at least in the public eye) meant to be a forum where any ideas can be discussed freely. But there has been an ideological shift towards the left at twitter banning many conservative political commentators, blaming them for their followers actions. While turning a blind eye to activist lynch mobs that freely bully people, get people fired etc. Focusing on the non issue of "trolls". I think as a platform it has become partisan and is suffering the consequences of 50% of the population not liking that. Regardless of your political persuasion, censoring one group and giving preference to another is not good, and certainly not a good business model. Now we see Youtube trying the same thing with "youtube heroes" by giving the most ideologically motivated people free reign to "mass flag" videos without even watching them. The current batch of social media is partisan, and worse authoritarian. Now we see the rise of "candid" and other anonymous social media, as people are starting to see the ramification of "SJW lynch mobs" can have on their daily life. These platforms are no longer (if they ever were) public forums where ideas can be spread and discussed. New social media will take its place. I say good riddance to partisan platforms of all kinds.

I don't get it, Twitter I mean. It's not useful to me as a passive service and not as an active one either. It's a solution in search of a problem. Kinda like Snapchat.

To those that shorted Twitter stock last month, we are partying in SF this weekend. Most of us will probably flip off the Twitter offices on Saturday night as we drive by screaming "Milo wins!!"
