There is no mention of October 18th in that report.
Carriers in New Zealand, Italy, Portugal and other mainly european countries have been hinting through official and unofficial ways that new iPhones would be coming soon, too.
That article is also fairly old, having been published on September 12th.

There's a lot of Danish articles/rumors about October 18th. Most of them originated from the CEO of Humac, Denmark's biggest Apple Premium reseller.
But according to the article, "more sources have unaffiliated set the iPhone 5s release for October 18th

It's in Danish, but use Google Translate or whatever ;)

They have dropped the ball in the sense that they're left retailers pissing in the wind with no real way to explain to your average consumer about why they can't get the phone they want.

To the average joe or jane in the street if you can't walk into most shops and buy the version of the product recently launched when you want then that product hasn't truly launched.

Dropping the ball

Its particularly galling elsewhere in the world when somebody can walk in off the street today and score a contract phone in under a week and also the reason I'm still waiting on my unlocked gold 5s ordered on launch day ( the earliest I could have ordered it ) is that Apple had ' dropped the ball ' by not having enough stock available and the happy fleecers from ebay have managed to work around the Apple's rules that apply to others ( like the OP )for their own purposes .

I actually found a store that had a phone in stock last week but refused to hold it for me for a couple of hours til I got off work because it was ' 1st Come 1st Serve ' even though I had an order which I could've cancelled from the 20th Sept Launch Day !!:eek:

Given that Tim Cook admitted that they messed up last year's iMac launch and disappointed customers over Christmas it's galling that they could not get their act together for this one .

Still I'm sure Schiller , Cook , Ive etc will all be loving their sales bonuses this holiday season  I wonder how many of the actual 9m phones sold on opening weekend have actually reached the hands of their owners yet ??
