So happy that the MacBook Air has reached the M4 level. Now that it has duel monitor support with the lid open and an interesting new colour option. It's almost the perfect device for everyone that doesn't need absolute computing power.

I’m trading in my M1 MBP 16/512 for $445 credit!

They used my registered device to auto-enter the trade-in info, however, they mislabeled the machine as 1TB even though they have correct S/N, so I’m getting $100 more.

Just to check, I manually entered the info, answering questions like year, storage, and condition, and it calculated only $345 for my model.

Reminds me of getting the Community Chest card “Bank Error in Your Favor. Collect $100.”
Thats decent for that. I was expecting more for mine. M2 Mid 2022 16/2TB - $620. So I'm gonna keep the M2 for now. Its still a powerhouse for what I do.

PSA. While it can support 2 displays with the lid open, if you want to connect those displays to a dock for a one cable solution, the MBA can likely only support one display per Thunderbolt bus. So you may either still need DisplayLink OR might need to connect the second monitor directly to the MBA. That said DisplayLink is quite fine for 90% of use cases, video and gaming being the exceptions.
Is this confirmed? Lack of two external display support through a single cable dock would be a bummer. DisplayLink software is glitchy.

So your experience is limited to people who walk in to a store and ask around, because can't make a decision on their own. Yeah, they are not the dual display folks, that's for sure.
Not limited to that. We did business and enterprise as well.

oh wow Apple brought back a feature that was available on Intel MacBook Air since 2011 to 2020… only took them four generations of their own chip

and it still only works via Thunderbolt chain if you want to use a single cable… no DP MST

Get the standard M4 MacBook Pro. The $1599 sku.
Having both and Air and a Pro at the moment, I appreciate the smaller size and lighter weight of the air. I just want the air form factor with the pro features (minus the extra horse power, I don't need it or the better cooling)n. I understand why they don't offer it, but it's fully possible.

Yeah I would love an Air with the better display. The current display on the Airs isn't bad, but it's also nothing particularly special.

The screen is what's holding me back from getting one too. I don't need all the power of the Pros.

meanwhile, the biggest issue with MBA is the port situation. give it a better port selection. needs one USB-C on each side and HDMI and SD Card

I would just be happy with one USB-C port on each side. Or, they could go really wild and put TWO on one side and one on the other!

Not all the things I need to plug in are always on the left side. That single USB-C port on the right side of my MBP puts in a lot of work.

I would argue that the target market for the Macbook Air does not likely need to be using three displays at a time. If they need that kind of screen real estate, they likely would be using a Macbook Pro anyways.
The option is always good as many people use two monitors for working and then keep the email on the laptop display etc.

Make sure there's nothing in the T&Cs that says they reserve the right to change the amount upon receipt and inspection of the device, otherwise you're probably going to get the $345 in the end...

This actually might make me update my MacBook Air! Have two external displays from work and would like to fully utilize them on my personal laptop!

I expect an additional external display to be supported with each M processor update. Bring on the M9 MBA with support for 6 6K displays + its built-in.
