$3.5k and a considerable number of drawbacks... I was interested, but not "at any price" interested. Apple can't be serious in thinking something at that price point and weight in a niche category that historically has struggled to take off would have been a big success. Really thought they were just testing the waters before releasing a more affordable product.

What the Apple Newton was to John Sculley, the Apple Vision Pro is to Tim Cook—an idiosyncratic product with some solid technological underpinnings and software concepts that was brought to market a generation too early.

It’s worth remembering that the Newton is why the modern ARM architecture exists at all. Sometime in the 2030s Apple will release something with Vision Pro DNA that will fulfill the promise of spatial computing. Right now the hardware is too over-engineered and cumbersome for casual use.

Wow! I was looking at used AVP's on FB Marketplace this week and had I seen one for $1,500 or less I would have purchased it. Glad I didn't pull the trigger on it.

I still want one, but I'll at least wait for WWDC.

Putting a new chip in the stupid thing was never going to revive sales that never existed. It’s a flop because there’s little use case in spending $3500 to strap giant goggles to your face tethered to a battery pack. It’s hilariously useless as an everyday consumer product. We already went through this 15 years ago with google glass. No one wanted it. IF they can get all this tech into regular sized glasses there MIGHT be a market but even then it’s extremely risky especially in today’s world where we already have almost zero privacy.

MacRumors has learned.
Any more detail??

I seem to recall articles from last year indication that the VPro team assigned to other projects, am I missing something?
Also, "giving up" vs deprioritize are different things.
but whatever, we'll see over the next couple/few years where we are really at

Is it just me, or do all of Apple’s products flop whenever the company jumps on a trend?
Mixed reality headsets, OS integrated AI, ultra-light phones, phone colors…

Everything that’s hyped up by unsocial media or the press but lacks a solid, long-term strategy.

And Apple’s approach only works in the long run.

It’s a flop. I knew it the moment I tried it on during a demo. What an uncomfortable headset. That lame battery pack. Desperately trying to find a proper ‘why’ to use it.
The entire battery ordeal makes me question the viability of something much smaller and thinner like glasses. I just don’t see glasses having anything near acceptable battery life.

This thing is to personal computing what 3D TV was to home entertainment…….

Functional at best
A facial strap-on for geeks and early adopters at worst

The exception and single field that it has appeared to be successful in has been medical imaging, although AR Glasses could likely fill it’s space if done right.
