I find this disappointing coming from Apple. If this is so, I don't know what differentiates iOS from Android.

But apple feels you need a tune up. Revenue is more important than your feelings.I do not like the tune of this at all.
Yup. But customers have a third option: Drop ATV+. As with Netflix, Disney+ and all of the other services, if the price is more than I'm willing to pay, or if there are annoyances such as ads, I'll simply end my subscription. There's already more content out there than I can possibly watch, and my life isn't going to be less worth living if I can't watch a particular movie or series. You've got to pay for those massive ATV+ actor/show contracts, massive marketing and production somehow. It's not coming from profits. Either that or increase the iPhone price an extra $100 every year.
Adverts in the App Store was already a step too far for me but if they start expanding adverts to other apps I will have to consider what to do next. Google already drove me away from their products with their business practices years ago, let’s hope Apple doesn’t do the same.
What are the viable alternatives now the market only has two smartphone operating systems?
***** ads.
What, now I need to pay for an ad free version of Maps? /smh
When privacy becomes a less profitable differentiating factor Apple will drop that pretense and openly sell us out."However, Apple will be aware that even a gentle creep into other areas of Apple's software could mar the premium experience that users expect of its devices, while also leaving it open to increased criticism over its App Tracking Transparency".
Personally I do not want to see ads in Apple Maps. I know Apple likes to claim the privacy high ground. But I feel that Apple is getting itself into dangerous territory here where it is looking more and more like a Google Mark Two.
Please don't go there Apple!
